I provide evidence-based treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss.
I offer a safe, supportive environment and have found empathy, understanding and humor are important in building a therapeutic alliance. My abilities are well suited to people with a history of trauma and who are intuitive and creative. Whether you're looking for short term therapy or a deeper process, my skill level applies to both. Each person is unique and I anticipate and enjoy building a relationship that assumes collaboration. I then work with them toward activating their own healing potential, no matter the age. I work well with individuals who have had treatment failures in the past.

However, some of the issues I love working with relate to life transitions, relationships, parenting, and life after loss.
A few years ago, I moved from upstate New York to Appleton, Wisconsin. I'm loving life in the Midwest! I am happy to be licensed in both Wisconsin and New York. At this time, I am ONLY seeing clients virtually using a HIPAA-compliant app called Spruce for video-based telehealth sessions. As of January 2023, I’ve recently had a few client spaces open up. These openings are mostly during the work week hours, but I’d love to see if we’re a fit. I’m not accepting insurance directly, but many of my clients are able to receive reimbursement by submitting my superbill to their insurance.

My areas of interest and experience include depression, suicide, grief and loss, anxiety disorders, self-esteem, couples and family therapy, life changes, domestic violence, trauma and severe and persistent mental illness.
I believe the hardest part to entering therapy is the first phone call. With many years of experience working in a variety of settings, nothing gives me greater pleasure than assisting individuals in improving their own quality of life and satisfaction. I enjoy working with individuals across the life span to include children ages five and older, adolescents, adults and couples.

Do you know that 1 in 7 women suffer from maternal mental health and is often overlooked and undertreated? Women of color is underdiagnosed because they are less likely to be screened for postpartum mood and anxiety disorders during pregnancy and within the first year of delivery. If you are experiencing symptoms: irritability, rage, guilt, difficulties sleeping, lack pleasure and joy, and excessively worry (to name a few only); it is vital to seek support. Many parents struggle in isolation and silence, but not all parents experience similar journeys. Untreated perinatal mental health leads to family suffering, pain, and loss.

My best work is with clients who need to love themselves more. I enjoy working with clients with low self-esteem, self-doubt, and anxiety, and working with them to extend more care to themselves. Often, these concerns can intersect with trauma, grief and loss, loneliness, experiences of bias and discrimination, and more - all of which I am glad to work with clients to address! Additionally, I am an expert in taking a nonjudgemental, abortion-positive approach to supporting people who have had abortions. I am also happy to work with clients around other family-building and reproductive topics.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
