It is true that loss never goes away, but our relationship with it changes.
If you have recently lost a loved one or are struggling with grief from a loss that happened awhile ago or are facing your own death and need someone to provide a non-judgmental space where you can be heard, witnessed, understood, and supported, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I will walk with you as you navigate your grief, and I will do this with an understanding that your grief is personal to you, it does not need to look a certain way or follow a pattern. Grief is something we will all face and we will all feel it and experience it in our own way. I believe in the power of grieving in community and being witnessed.

My focus is on women and gender non conforming people of color, grief and loss, somatic awareness, questions of identity (racial, gender, roles, etc), family of origin issues, complex, intergenerational, and religious trauma, self esteem, attachment, parts work, relationships, and life transitions.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and compassionate space for you to re-connect with your whole self (body included!) as well as your strengths, and to process through emotions and experiences that feel challenging to face and sort through on your own. As a black mixed race person of color myself, my racial identity is a lens through which I see the work and how I show up in the therapeutic space. I have a special interest in processing through grief for those who have experienced loss of any kind. I utilize calm, reflective listening, somatic awareness, social justice and systems focus, and a strengths-based approach.

I work with adult individuals from many different backgrounds and walks of life, and especially love working with people on issues of perinatal mental health, parenting, grief and loss, and major life transitions.
We often place pressure on ourselves to be okay, power through, and be strong. Yet there are times when we need extra support. You may be navigating a major transition, experiencing anxiety or overwhelm, or grappling with grief. You may be a new parent trying to make it through the early postpartum months. You may be pregnant and preparing for big unknowns, or feeling alone in a struggle with fertility. You may be a parent wanting to reconnect with yourself. You may be navigating loss and grief and feeling totally under water. These are vulnerable, tender times when we most need to feel seen and supported with compassion and care.

My work is rooted in existential and buddhist concepts and I have experience leading groups focused on coping with grief, self-compassion, and integrating mindfulness-based approaches into daily life.
I want to help you find solace, clarity, and a sense of ease to the things in life that seldom make sense. Often this is asking big questions in the face of life's hardest curveballs. I will encourage meaningful and honest conversations about the things in life that are challenging for you to explore. Together, we will make a space to be able to give life to the words that are difficult to say out loud and help you grow in ways that feel useful to you. This can be a painful process and most often is worth it.

My life experiences combined with my training give me a compassionate understanding of people and their struggles. Mother of six, one killed in an accident, grandmother of seven, one developmentally delayed. These traumas, though sad, have been great teachers. I use humor and common sense in my own humanistic style. Improving your sense of humor will help with personal growth, relationships, grief, pain, and your emotional and physical health. Designing Therapeutic Gardens gives me a sense of the cycle of life and I use Healing Horticulture with some of my clients.

One area I hold particularly sacred support around is pregnancy loss and the perinatal journey.
At the core of my therapeutic approach is my belief that we heal and transform through authentic and empathic connection. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we co-create a space to engage what has been wounded and find medicine to heal and grow. Seeking healing and restoration is a brave and courageous journey that goes against all the systems of oppression that seek to wound and separate us. I considered it a profound honor to walk with someone in this journey through challenges, suffering, wonder, curiosity and pain, to find a healing, growth, embodiment and joy that follows us beyond the therapy room.

We all need to be heard, but putting feelings into words can be difficult, especially when dealing with family transitions, anxiety, grief, depression, school or identity issues.
I have been working with children and families, teens and young adults for more than 30 years. With genuine warmth and hopeful optimism I connect with individuals through virtual counseling or (weather permitting) as we walk and talk on Alki. Building a supportive relationship is foundational to helping clients understand and manage emotions, gain skills for communication and work through life’s challenges. Every one of us must learn to understand, appreciate and accept ourselves as unique individuals. Helping others find their voice in this process is my goal and great joy.

When forming this practice, I was reminded of being a child playing outside. Can you recall playing tag at recess? It seemed inevitable that at some point, someone would get so close to being tagged and yell, "I'm on T." What a fleeting gift of childhood - to just call 'time' when the pressure got too high. I have spent 8 years working with children, teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, social skills/relationship difficulties, ADHD, OCD, and more. If you feel that there is something blocking you from experiencing a life you can enjoy, therapy might be right for you.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
