I am a certified thanatologist, meaning I have extensive training in helping people who are dealing with complex grief issues.
Before becoming an LCSW I worked for many years as a medical assistant. My background and training in these fields helps me understand and guide patients / family members through illness and / or grief. I also have extensive experience helping people who are depressed or anxious. I believe that it is important to listen to clients and learn from them, rather than approaching their concerns as if I have all the answers. Together we can find ways for you, the client, to grow, cope with, and overcome stressors and difficulties in life.

I have a wide array of experience working with varying adaptive responses including but not limited to: Flashbacks, Anxiety, Depression, Food Restriction, Insomnia, Isolation, Chronic Fear, Loneliness, Negative Self Beliefs, Chaotic Substance Use, Avoidance, Dissociation - Relational Stress, Anger, Hopelessness, Grief.
Voted Utah's Best Therapist 2022 + 2023. My approach centers the wisdom of our body, nature + relationships as the most valuable components in healing. Under enough stress, all humans make adaptations to survival. These survival strategies do a great job when they are first learned, but when continued outside of the context of their creation, they can reenact + reinforce patterns that are no longer helpful. It’s in this understanding that we work together to identify where patterns began, what behaviors were learned for emotional and physical survival + how we can create new ways of interacting in the world that feel more whole.

I am skilled in companioning individuals who are experiencing distress related to sexual violence, incidents of trauma, grief & loss, and life transitions.
Pain is part of the human experience. Rather than efforts of eliminating distress, I invite individuals to amplify their awareness of thoughts, sensations, and impulses that contribute to pain and suffering. This mindful practice, coupled with self-compassion, can mobilize healing, increase our ability to manage distress, and expand our resilience. Collaboratively, we will explore options for creating a meaningful life.

“If your waiting for someone to believe in you, you’ll be waiting forever. You must believe in yourself.” …. Cher I want to understand you as your are and what your story is, not just what you are in counseling for. I build connections based on similarities or shared interests/knowledge/experiences/values. I am here to listen, be your support then help guide you to be happy with what looks back at you in the mirror. Having survived a near death experience, I learned about myself and was able to see my purpose in life. Therapy can heal by providing a safe space to feel held and supported while working through complex life events.

Some of my clinical experience includes working with those who experience anxiety & depression, relationship concerns, family conflict, trauma, self-esteem issues, sexual abuse, chronic illness, and grief and loss.
Accepting new clients. I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families via Telehealth and view this process as a collaborative one. We all experience struggles in life. If you find that coping with these is proving more difficult than you thought (or strategies you have tried are not helping), you may want to consider therapy. I aim to provide a safe, empathic, and confidential atmosphere so that we can explore your concerns, away from your every day environment. You do not have to face life's challenges alone. It is truly an honor to listen to the experiences and stories my clients choose to share and I love what I do.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
