We all have important stories to share; stories of pain, grief, joy, sorrow, fear, and empowerment. I love to come alongside others as they make sense of their stories and grow in compassion and kindness for themselves. I enjoy meeting my clients right where they are and being a part of their life's journey. As a counselor, I tend to be curious, open-handed, and flexible, viewing clients as the experts on themselves, inherently possessing the natural ability to grow and heal.

I do not have an ideal client, except to say I enjoy working with people who are willing and ready to take steps towards feeling better and more emotionally healthy. Sometimes, these steps include some hard work, inc. retraining their thought processes. Many of my current clientele are women or men experiencing depression, grief issues or anxiety in adjusting to life transitions. These life transitions may include death of a loved one, chronic illness, adjusting to marriage/divorce, and parenthood, etc. I find that most people are resilient and possess inner strength they may not always recognize.

I am a survivor of suicide loss.
As of 09/2024 I am only scheduling autism assessments... Whether this is your first or the millionth therapist you have reached out to, you are taking the time to find the best fit. Have you diagnosed yourself with autism? Or felt an autism diagnosis is the missing part of your life? Maybe you have felt “different” your whole life, or perhaps you recently started exploring the possibility of neurodivergence. You may be struggling to connect with others or simply to survive day-to-day. Perhaps you’re feeling frustrated and want the answers you have been searching for.

As a Fellow in Thanatology (FT) I specialize in issues surrounding grief and loss, and utilize a grief-informed lens in all of my work with clients.
Having spent over a decade working in University Counseling Centers, I enjoy working with individuals at points in their life of growth or transition, whether forced upon them or chosen. Change is hard, when it's chosen and even more so when it's not. Having support can empower you to use the momentum created by change to create the life you want for yourself, instead of feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed by all that life changes require. Whether in a moment of distress or a desire to grow beyond the past, I value the opportunity to support clients in finding choices that allow them to live a more balanced and genuine life.

Such issues include: Depression, anxiety, health issues (stress, pain management, smoking cessation, obesity), divorce recovery (for adults and children), adoption, low self-esteem, abuse survivors, PTSD, ADHD, grief, couples problems and psychological testing.
My goal as a psychologist is to increase self-awareness and create positive change in a nonjudgmental environment. Psychotherapy can relieve emotional distress, improve one's quality of life, help process painful events and increase self-awareness. Unfortunately many people are conflicted about the decision to get help and may see psychotherapy as a sign of weakness. It has been my experience that people who are unhappy for whatever reason and choose to go to psychotherapy are being assertive, healthy, and courageous in the handling of their problems.

I offer a confidential space for change and growth for clients battling with depression, anxiety, grief, life transition, stress management, and premarital and marriage counseling to name a few.
I utilize a CBT solution focused approach when working with clients. I truly believe everyone can tech their goals, yet they have to overcome the hurdles of fear and change. Therapy is a great tool that you have to utilize consistently and work through your “things” outside the four walls of therapy; I call therapy in motion. Remember Change isn’t CHANGE until YOU Change.

Do you need help navigating the issues of life? You don't have to tackle these issues alone. Allow me to help. I will walk alongside you and together we can figure it out. We all need help from time to time. This doesn’t make us weak, it makes us human. Sometimes a little help is needed to bring answers we already possess to the surface.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
