My diverse practice focuses on grief/ loss, anxiety, depression, relationships, work identity, life transitions, among other issues.
"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" (Mary Oliver) -- This question lies at the heart of my work, with my goal being to help clients live more authentic and connected lives through self-awareness, resilience and positive change. My approach is flexible, interactive and solution-oriented. I bring a mindful perspective to psychotherapy and tend to see life transitions as opportunities for transformation and growth. My clients have said that my calm demeanor and my careful, empathic listening promote a safe and reflective environment, fostering self-compassion, self-awareness and change.

With over 25 years of counseling experience, I work with a broad spectrum of clients and client issues: individual and family therapy, couples counseling, women's issues, grief and loss, work & career issues; stress, depression, anxiety, social skills training, ADHD, anger management, adolescent/parent conflicts, alcohol recovery issues as well as parenting guidance and education.
To Schedule: https://headway.co/providers/monica-king In the midst of the busyness and conflicts of life it can be hard to hear your own wisdom saying who you are and how you can change. Psychotherapy can help. At its heart, psychotherapy is about listening. And you, feeling truly heard in a new, and refreshing way. As a therapist I strive to listen with compassion and interest to help my clients hear their own voice. Reflected, this offers possibilities for greater self understanding, change, and new direction. The therapeutic relationship serves as a catalyst for the positive changes that you as a client seek.

Are you having difficulty managing your anxiety or moving forward in your grief? You feel overwhelmed & unsure of what to do. The Negative Committee inside your head won't shut up & sit down. You want to break free from self-doubt, overthinking, people-pleasing. You are harder on yourself than on others. You've experienced a loss & wonder how life will ever feel normal again. You're struggling to make sense of this loss. You don't know what the "new normal" is & want the old one back. You feel paralyzed, depressed, relieved, guilty in your grief all at the same time. You & your partner feel like roommates not partners?

I have experience and I am very passionate about working with those within the adoption constellation, families, pregnant/postpartum, and those experiencing grief.
Hi- I’m so happy you’re here! Being human is not always easy, and, at times, navigating what life has to offer can feel complicated or overwhelming. Because of this, we all sometimes need some extra support, a listening-ear, or a safe space to just talk about everything and anything. I would love to work with you to build a safe, meaningful, and collaborative space to explore your thoughts and emotions while also helping you to develop new skills, understandings, and ways of healing.

I focus on adult care including: women’s issues, career/educational issues, interpersonal communication, self-esteem, anger management, stress management, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression and anxiety.
How many times have you looked at this website? (Yea, me too. I wondered if this would be the best way to connect with clients). And now you are trying to find a good therapist–someone who will relate to you. Let me start off by stating how important I think mental health is to the well-being of an individual. I believe that it colors everything that one does. While life isn’t always perfect, one can look at life- process, develop options and just try it out. It really isn’t clear cut like that and processing takes time. Maybe that is why I am in this field–to help people to look at their lives and to make their lives better.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
