I specialize in working with clients of all ages dealing with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, illness, life transitions, spirituality, trauma, and addictions.
Sometimes in life, we can find ourselves feeling weighed down by pain, disappointments, and suffering. In times like these, having a compassionate, supportive counselor to journey with can help us know we are seen and not alone. In my work with clients, I strongly believe that one of the most powerful gifts in therapy is genuine care, supportive feedback, and listening. In my therapy sessions, I greatly value fostering a warm, accepting space to support my clients in growing and cultivating greater resilience.

Parenthood is seldom what we expect it to be and can often be intertwined with immense feelings of grief, resentment, and overwhelm. Those feelings can often make us question ourselves, feel incapable and leave us unsure of where to turn to next. Whether your situation, know that with support and perseverance, you have the capacity to heal and live the life you imagined. As a therapist, I love championing women as they navigate varying stages of life and believe every person deserves an authentic and empathic space where they can feel heard, understood, safe and empowered.

I have worked with individuals, couples, and families as they've grieved the loss of a loved one, as divorce unraveled their sense of stability, or as unforeseen events and difficult transitions presented.
I believe it is a true privilege to be able to help others work through some of their most difficult times in life. I see each person as having unique needs, dreams, strengths and challenges, and I know that working collaboratively with a client requires that I first understand and honor who that individual is. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, and it is often a daunting task to find a therapist who is the right fit. I would love the opportunity to talk with you, so that you may decide if I am the right counselor for you.

My specialty areas include: depression, anxiety, grief, couple/marriage counseling, Christian counseling, identity issues, recovery after a separation or divorce, infidelity, new transitions, career/college counseling, family conflict, work environment issues, impostor syndrome, teacher/administration/education work-related stress, and parenting stress.
Hello! At the beginning, my focus will be on getting to know you. Everyone has a story to tell and as you tell yours, I will be looking for your personal character strengths (we all have them). Your character strengths will help you achieve the positive change(s) you are seeking. Once I get a grasp on your strengths, we will combine your natural strengths with new strategies and supports from a variety of research-based resources. It is my goal that each and every counseling session be preventative, proactive, and/or empowering. Often, you will be given homework so the therapy continues even when we are not meeting.

This has been such a hard season for many individuals and families navigating challenging issues with grief and loss. Most of my work has been providing support to children, adolescents, and adults during stressful experiences and transitions. My job allows me the privilege to witness the resilience and strength of individuals as they move through unexpected challenges. I believe it is important for all people to have a safe, non-judgmental, authentic space to feel validated and to help bring balance and healing to their life. I also work with therapists and medical providers who experience trauma and loss at work.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
