I help couples using the Gottman method, a data-driven approach, to improve connection and conflict management.
Relationships require trust, communication, and profound awareness of each other’s worlds. I work with couples, including polyamorous, non-monogamous, kinky, etc, to build connection, trust, and intimacy in their relationships. I also help partners learn to manage relationship conflict more effectively. I help partners find ways to communicate about challenging and sensitive issues. This is important when partners struggle to connect around each other's unique sexual wants and needs. These conversations need an atmosphere of trust, acceptance, and non-judgment, as partners learn to validate and respond to each other's sexual selves.

Some days you may not want to feel so weighted; your head to not race; your intimate partner to not be that passing ship; or so moved by compulsion. You may just need some safe space to figure it all out. This can be your sorting place. My goal is to help you better identify and understand your symptoms and improve overall coping. You are an individual, not a cookie cutter, so your treatment approach will be unique to your needs, and each person's journey is individual. Through goal setting, we can help you to develop decisions congruent with the life you want. I use CBT, ACT, mindfulness, & Gottman Method (completed Level 1 & 2).

I have training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Prepare/Enrich, an evidence-based tool for helping couples prepare for marriage and improve their relationships.
I work with a wide variety of clients and mental health concerns, and especially enjoy supporting adults and couples looking to improve communication and satisfaction in their relationships. I believe that therapy can help people find new, positive ways of connecting and increasing their sense of support and resiliency. In addition to relationship work, I help people going through life transitions in all stages of life. I particularly like working with adults in middle age and beyond navigating an empty nest, balancing care for children and aging parents, or those moving into retirement and exploring their identity outside of work.

Using tools like personality typology and the Gottman Method, I’ll help you understand yourself and your partner in deeper ways.
I have immediate availability including Saturday mornings! Your relationship is stuck and it's wearing you out. You feel like you are going around in circles and the pain and hurt is piling up. You try to communicate but you don’t feel seen or heard. The exhaustion is growing, constantly trying to fix things and getting nowhere. “I didn’t think it you would be this way” you tell yourself. When you met, there was a spark. You felt so attracted to this unique person but now those differences are grating and cause you pain. It’s like you’re speaking different languages, and you just wish your partner could see things your way.

I really enjoy working through a variety of issues, and have a unique and comforting approach to guiding clients out of whatever they are currently sitting with. I believe the client is the expert in their own lives and they are capable of change, but sometimes need some help to figure out their path and find solutions. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to any issue, and use various methods such as EMDR, DBT, ACT, and solution focused, depending on your needs. I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples.

My passion for being a therapist is rooted in relationships. We cannot survive and thrive without connection to others - yet how can it get so messy and complicated!? As a couples and family therapist, I am dedicated to support you through those hard times. Viewing your relationship as my "client", I aim to help identify patterns and cycles that are keeping you stuck and disconnected. Your differences are complex, but I view them as possibilities to build a strong team. In addition to couples work, I enjoy working with individuals experiencing family and relationship issues, career concerns, anxiety, and difficult life transitions.

I believe that building an authentic relationship with each client is one of the first steps in moving towards peace, hope, and healing. As we seek to understand ourselves and the patterns of distress, conflict, or confusion we fall into, taking space to explore our strengths and connections is an important step in building a foundation for how we want to move through our world. I value creating a non-judgmental space for each individual, couple, or family to identify their goals and work together to reflect and acquire the necessary tools to begin to feel whole.

My focus in therapy is to build a trusting relationship which inspires self-discovery and a greater capacity for change. I tend to use a relational style with curiosity, humor, and compassion to support people in understanding and coping with mental health symptoms, learning better communication skills in relationships, and exploring identity development and life transitions. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples, and particularly enjoy working with those seeking support for anxiety, relationship issues, parenting, and identity development, including LGBTQ+ identities, as a queer person myself.

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
