Hello, my name is Amanda and I believe this career found me. Ever since I was a child all I wanted was to help people, be outside and create art. I know the power of art because it has helped me through many tough times. Art is how I communicate when I don't have the words to share my inner world with others. I know the power of being heard without judgment or unwelcome advice, because I too have experienced the feeling of isolation and frustration from receiving the opposite. I know the power of having a relationship with the natural world, because it has fostered a sense of belonging and spirituality for me.
I am a graduate of Wayne State University where I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. I have experience working with youth in the juvenile justice system and foster care, adults with substance abuse, traumatic brain injuries and housing insecurity.
My approach to conducting therapy is to tailor the sessions to you, because you are the expert on you. We will collaborate on the best approach to help you reach your goals. I utilize an integration of art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy and mindfulness-based techniques. I hope to hear from you soon!
