Trained in both classical and contemporary analysis, I focus on depression and anxiety, sexual and relationship issues, trauma and self-identity problems. We would start with a consultation and our goal would be to establish a fruitful connection from the beginning. My other goals include helping you with your feelings, the troubling ones that return unwanted. I have found listening well is at least as important as talking well. Speech contains levels of meaning and so does silence. We discourse together in a dialogue leading to better relationships, better functioning, and better experiences.
A good therapist is fully present in a middle ground, neither crowding nor abandoning the other person. Your discourse, heard with empathy, creates a full story over time. Fear, shame, or confusion leaves things unspoken. We need to present our stories to a listening presence to understand ourselves. In the end, it's about self-discovery in narrative.
Before becoming an analyst I was a professor and teacher of English, and continue to write about literature and psychoanalysis with passionate interest. Everything I've done, including as a father and husband, is connected to narrative, to the learning of the stories of the self and the other. Learning our true story we move toward the true self.
