These approaches are tailored based on your needs, and tend to include: Client-Centered, CBT, Interpersonal, DBT, Insight-Oriented, Trauma Focused, and Narrative Therapy, among others.
I most enjoy working with men and women who have gone through various forms of trauma, and helping them get to a point where they can begin to fully enjoy their lives again. It takes a brave individual to be willing to look at and sort through their own stuff. Many times, past traumas have weaved their way into our lives and are operating in our current circumstances. Trauma impacts the way we react, our willingness to be vulnerable, our communication, expectations, physical health, and most of all how we perceive ourselves. I am very interested in patterns of trauma that are passed from one generation to the next.

In either situation, I have helped many to work through difficult life situations in relationships, with children, and interpersonal conflicts.
Every now and then, we all need someone to talk to. At times life can be down right hard and may seem overwhelming. Maybe you are experiencing life changes, adjusting to a divorce, or having problems in your relationship and do not know what to do.

It's hard to admit to yourself the life you are living just doesn't seem like enough anymore. Waking up, you stare into the mirror, and can't help but judge the person looking back. You're realizing that you don't understand yourself, causing the uncertainty of life to settle in. The pain, fear, and struggles from the past have stopped you from living a fully authentic life. You know you're slowly losing the true sense of the person you were meant to be. Life keeps passing by, time keeps ticking and you are stuck on this roller coaster just trying to get off.

As a psychotherapist in private practice, I specialize in working with couples and men's issues. Couples often face a range of challenges that can strain their relationship, including communication breakdowns, unresolved conflicts, intimacy issues, and differing expectations. These difficulties can lead to feelings of frustration, resentment, and a sense of drifting apart. I help couples navigate these obstacles, fostering understanding, improving communication, and rebuilding trust to create a healthier and more fulfilling partnership. In addition to couples, I also work with men, addressing the specific issues they may encounter.

We are all living a story, and like any good narrative, our chronicles are filled with various characters, diverse settings, and twists and turns of the plot. Along the way, we face conflict - with those closest to us, with the workings of the world, and within ourselves. We long for understanding, resolution, and realization of the intention and purpose of our design. The human story can be one of freedom and flourishing, but flourishing is only possible if we are free, and breaking free can be challenging and wearisome on our own.

From childhood through late adulthood, there are certain times when we may need help addressing problems and issues that cause us emotional distress or make us feel overwhelmed. Together we work towards growth by identifying the issues involved, establishing goals, and becoming increasingly aware of reoccurring patterns that prevent growth. As awareness of one’s fears, perception, desires, and strengths increase, we are able to make successful life changes. Self-awareness by becoming more honest with ourselves can initiate the authenticity that often results in healing, transformation, and fuller life.

Hello, I’m Kelley. My clients are often sensitive, resilient, and creative individuals who feel stuck, exhausted, hurt, or frustrated in their relationships and within themselves. Using a Narrative Therapy framework, I strive to understand each client's unique story. The question I ask is not "What is wrong with you?" but "What has happened to you?" My approach is grounded in a systems perspective, offering a non-pathologizing, compassionate view that acknowledges the profound impact of trauma and/or systemic oppression on an individual’s health and well-being.

Many in today's world feel disconnected. You may feel disconnected from yourself, from those you love and even perhaps from a sense of any greater purpose in your life. What I love to do is help individuals, and families reconnect and hopefully come into a greater fullness of life.

My style is direct, compassionate, and engaging. Grief is a multi-faceted experience and having a trustworthy guide can make navigating it less frightening. I help people experiencing sudden and expected loss with dignity and compassion. I help parents provide effective and supportive care to teens whose moods and behaviors may seem confusing, frustrating or even scary. I look forward to connecting with you in the process of building on the strengths and resilience you already possess.

A note to my clients who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian, LBGTQ+. I am Anti Racist and an ally. Working together I hear and respect your story, I know you are Personally impacted by systemic racism and discrimination. The minute you pick up that phone or send an email requesting an appointment there is courage realized. Sometimes our world shrinks when we are feeling sad or hurt and it takes courage to break through. It is my sincere belief that we are full of endless possibilities. I also know that reaching out for a guide to help become unstuck is the first step to freeing those possibilities.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I am skilled at working with the most challenging of children, ages 3 - 12. Their needs vary from trauma, anxiety, anger outbursts, adjustment problems, to grief/loss. Play Therapy is a researched approach that allows your child to take the lead in the session, while the therapist follows and interprets his/her play. Their self-paced process allows your child to work through issues without fear or trepidation. When he/she is ready to reconnect, the process is complete.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
