I have made my home and established my practice in Georgia. I take an honest and caring approach with all my clients. I communicate without judgement. I listen to my clients and work cooperatively to create their goals for treatment. Throughout the treatment process, I will guide and empower them to self-reflect and be the agent of change in their life. Rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues, I use a variety of methods to best support and assist my clients. As a therapist, I am warm, encouraging, and direct.

You know you aren’t living your fullest life, because fear and anxiety is interfering with what you want and need to do. All you want to do is break free from this anxiety! I get it, and I can help you. Anxiety is treatable, and I have particular expertise treating phobias and OCD. It's exhausting to cope with anxiety, and it can make you vulnerable to depression, burnout, and problems at home and with your job. I am confident that therapy can help you find relief from the grip of fear, panic and anxiety. The same way that anxiety can spiral out of control, it can also spiral back down to a soft landing of serenity and confidence.

As the author of the upcoming internationally published book Artful Grieving (Jessica Kingsley Publishers), I am on the cutting edge of combining art therapy techniques with traditional grief counseling to address all losses.
Services are anchored in acceptance of the individual regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religious/spiritual beliefs. My goal in starting my own practice was to create a space where everyone felt welcome and free to be themselves. Recognizing that no two people are the same, services are customized to meet the unique needs of the individual.

A major focus on my work has been managing anxiety, grief and depression and helping clients to develop healthy, positive coping skills, reduce stress and prevent burnout.
Hello! I'm Monique, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Georgia and Florida. I graduated with my Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University. I have been practicing in the mental health field for almost 12 years. I was influenced by my personal and family experiences to start the journey as a counselor and have worked diligently to dispel the negative perceptions of therapy within culturally diverse communities. As a working mother, I know what it feels like to be burned out, but have to keep going.

My professional strength is knowing how to help people calm down and regain focus in one of three ways:(1) counseling-helping someone get through difficult life issues such as the death of a loved one; (2) psychotherapy-which involves real change and requires a long-term commitment to healing open wounds; and (3) consultation-providing advice on a single issue or event where professional consultation could be helpful. Everyone has a story to tell and I am here to listen, to help and to heal. It is my unwavering belief that no matter what the situation is, our problems are never bigger than life.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
