Taking the initial step to find the right fit for therapy can be a challenging decision, and I will meet you exactly where you are at in this moment to get you to the right place. Focusing on the whole-self by integrating mindfulness and holistic techniques, I provide a soft place to land as you make meaning of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped you into the person you are today. I hope to help you reclaim inner strength and guide you to improve communication skills, understand how your attachment style allows you to relate to the world and heal unresolved trauma. You are worthy of love and belonging, and you are not alone.

My ideal client would be an adolescent who has endured some type of trauma or abuse. Their needs would include building resiliency and expanding their coping skills "toolbox." Their goal would ultimately be to find hope and healing, despite their adversities. They would want to be an active participant in their treatment, so that therapy could be as beneficial as possible. Having said that, any client who feels that they could benefit from my counseling services is more than welcome into my office!

Connecting with others and with yourself can feel muddy and anxiety provoking, especially in childhood, navigating teenage years, and into young adulthood! My experiences working in school systems, agencies, and now private practice spaces allows me to have a multi-faceted approach to truly cater therapy to your child/teen's circumstance. I use a trauma-informed, interpersonal approach so that clients can feel safe to show up exactly how they are, without any fear of judgement. As therapy is a group effort, I use expressive techniques such as art and play based therapy in order to make processing tough emotions easier!

Hello! I am Alex Hopkins of Early Connections Child & Family Counseling. I specialize in counseling boys ages 8-18, and young men ages 19-22. Many of the young people I work with are recovering from trauma, and need a safe place to heal. Others are struggling to fit in with their peers, and need to know they're not alone. Some of them are navigating the tricky waters of sexual development, or identify as LGBTQ+ and need a place where they are welcomed and affirmed. A lot of the young people I work with feel anxious and/or depressed and want to feel hopeful again. All of the people I work with want to feel safe, seen, and secure.

"My child doesn't know how to regulate their emotions." I hear this a lot. And it's true. No one is born knowing how to regulate their emotions, and most of us who are adults now were never actually taught, we just did our best to figure it out, and now we're trying to pass on the skill to small, emotionally volatile people with half-baked nervous systems. Yeah. If it feels hard, it's because it IS. And if you have a child with some extra emotional sensitivity or sensory processing differences or neurodivergence or a trauma history or big life changes, it's even harder. And now YOUR nervous system is frayed.

I am a collaborative, relationally-oriented counselor who strives to create a warm environment filled with genuine acceptance of you, no matter where you are in life. I believe that self-awareness is one of the core pillars that aid in the alleviation of suffering. The simplest of lifestyle changes can create immense improvements in the quality of one’s life. Establishing a safe and trusting relationship with a therapist, can relieve psychological and physical imbalances, as well as uncover the unhealthy habits, patterns, and behaviors that lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, traumatic stress, and chronic pain. My practice focuses on the specific needs of women and girls throughout the lifespan.

Effective therapy begins with an authentic relationship between client and therapist. When this is established, possibilities are virtually endless. I tailor my approach to your needs with whatever you are experiencing or what your goals are. We might identify and understand core causes of dysfunctional thinking and behavior keeping you stuck. We can reprocess deep traumas or anxieties. Ultimately, we can understand and remove barriers keeping you from who you want to be or the peace you desire.
