Many of the individuals I have worked with have experienced relief from anxiety, depression, PTSD and freedom from addictions.
Ever feel like you are responsible for your kids and your parents? Responsibilities from both ends. Maybe you are stressed out over work, family, finances, or planning for the future. Are you worried about the future, maybe even the present? Never have a minute to relax. I’ve been there and I know just how you feel. Will it ever end? Is there any hope? Yes, there is. I have counseled many individuals over the years who were in your shoes. I walked with them through the valley. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Anxiety and depression rob us of moments in life, stress our relationships, and hold us hostage in time. Haunting memories from the past stir us to run, fight, or shut down whenever we are reminded. The demands of life barrel on as we struggle to find a window to rest and to heal. The great news is, there is hope. Hope to better understand the parts of us that are healthy and those parts that are hurting. And hope that by working together we can strengthen your relationship with yourself and lighten your load. Let’s unburden, learn to cut anxiety off before it builds or shut it down when it does, lift the fog of depression,

Hello. My name is Judith Ashworth, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I just retired from the Wellstar hospital system, where I had been working for 20 years, mostly as a behavioral health and clinician. I ran groups and provided assessment and individual brief therapy on their inpatient unit or but within Path, I am looking forward to doing rational emotive behavioral therapy or REBT. This will provide quicker progress. I have been pretty successful working on addiction, depression, and OCD. I feel comfortable working with severe psychiatric disorders as well. But I know that's not what this forum is all about.

I work with addictions, eating disorders, depression and anxiety.
I was initially trained in addiction counseling for adolescents, thus I'm more verbal than alot of therapists. I believe that most personal growth is done outside the session with homework assignments, active behavioral changes, and challenging irrational self-talk.

As an experienced, licensed counselor, I understand what steps are needed to make real healing possible. Just like the physical body, healing for the mind and spirit requires time and it is important to know at the onset that the counseling process will be a journey, rather than a sprint. I provide my clients with a safe, non-judgmental space in which to share their story, helping them take their first steps on the path to lasting health. As a trauma-informed, source-focused counselor, I prioritize addressing the root source of a problem rather than its symptoms.

Life can be just the worst. We can deal with crippling depression, paralyzing anxiety, or destructive anger. We can experience symptoms that are very much a part of us, like with ADHD, that can get in the way of our day to day. On the flip side life can also be fulfilling, humorous, and joyful. Not without it's sufferings life can be something meaning filled.

I have assisted many individuals process through and overcome childhood trauma, sexual assault, neglect, abuse, abandonment, anxiety, depression, and many of the other problems created by trauma.
Sometimes life is just hard, you are going along, and everything is fine, when, suddenly, wham!...everything changes, and leaves you asking, "now what?" You were taught how to do Algebra, but not how to deal with the situation you find yourself in. For me, therapy is about finding the right tools for you so that you can, in the healthiest way possible, thrive in the hardest times. I want you to know that you are amazing, and infinitely capable, and that sometimes you just need a little bit of help learning how to deal with life's curve balls.

I enjoy working with people who believe they are at their breaking point and don't know what else to do. Whether it be "mid-life crisis", going off to college, school and work demands, relationship issues, struggles with parenting, stress, depression, anxiety or ADD. Do you look in the mirror and not recognize yourself? Does your teen appear to be struggling? Do you often wonder if there is something more? Have your friends or family told you that counseling might help you? If you are wondering if you would benefit from counseling then you would benefit from counseling. Life doesn't have to be this hard for you or someone you love.

I believe that depression, anxiety, and feelings of perfectionism, self-criticism, and people-pleasing are all signs of past trauma that may be lingering.
Trauma doesn’t have to hold you captive. You can get free from childhood trauma and trauma from traumatic and stressful life experiences. I also love working with clients who have a desire to move up in their careers and make major life changes. I believe every person should have a life filled with joy and purpose. My ultimate goal is for you to be able to heal, create, and enjoy your life.

I work with adult men, women, and teenagers in individual counseling who are experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness/isolation/abandonment, and relationship/family issues.
Are you experiencing a difficult season in your personal life? My name is Sam and I'm a native of North Georgia and a graduate of The University of Georgia. Ignoring suffering doesn’t lead to better feelings, only less feelings. Simply pulling the weeds just leaves you with an empty garden. When we choose to water half truths and negative experiences we can cultivate feelings of sadness, anger, fear, hopelessness, shame, or unworthiness. These feelings often lead to isolation, unhealthy choices, and unhealthy relationships.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
