I utilize various treatment modalities that pair beautifully with trauma healing especially EMDR & DBT informed practices.
I have a passion for working with individuals and the therapeutic healing process. My area of focus is adverse life events and trauma or in other terms psychological wounds. At the core, Trauma overwhelms our coping abilities. There are multiple long-term impacts of our wounds that can create an imbalance in our daily functioning. Sometimes after time, the way we coped and continue to cope becomes destructive. Overall, our psychological wounds impact every single aspect of our life, subconsciously, in deep unknown ways to us. To schedule go to: practice.kareo.com/wholemind

Calling all women who feel dismissed, overlooked, or rejected by your family. Every time you talk with them you end up feeling worse. The loneliness is real. You’re surrounded by them, but they don’t see the real you. You’ve set up your life based on how they thought you should be, but even that’s not enough to make them happy. You’ve been trying to heal. Reading self help books. Doom scrolling social media trying to find that one thing that makes it all make sense. However, your life still isn’t what you thought it would be and you’re ready for things to change. You need someone on your side who can guide you through the process.

I have specialty training in trauma ( EMDR), empowerment (NLP) and Immigration Psychological Evaluations.
Are you losing yourself trying to please everyone else? Are you tired of feeling stuck, hurt and lost paying the ultimate cost? Don't know how to set healthy boundaries speaking up for yourself or always holding things together when life goes left! It's Time For Change! Imagine a life aligned; mind, body, and soul where you are able to reach more goals! Speaking truth with confidence, having fulfilling relationships, setting healthy guilt free boundaries, while prioritizing your own joy and inner peace. If this is you, Its Time For Change! You know what to do. Call me. Poem by Karyn King, LPC

My therapeutic approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR).
Do you live with emotional trauma, physical trauma, chronic illness or chronic pain? Are you tired of feeling like your life is out of control?
I understand how difficult it can be to live with emotional trauma, physical trauma, chronic illness and chronic pain. Life is not happening the way that you planned. You may be frozen in physical and emotional pain. The pain is not gone even when there is no evidence that it should still be there and you worry how you will show up in your own life if the pain lasts forever. Maybe you can't stop thinking about the thing that happened, no matter how hard you try.

Trying to keep up with everything is getting to be too much. The projects at work or maintaining a business have become challenging. The chores and the to-do list have gotten longer. The kids have yet another event scheduled and you are not in the mood to cook dinner. Not only that, your mental health has suffered due to past trauma or stressors, leaving your relationships in shambles, your goals left undone, your mood on a constant rollercoaster, and your needs last on the list. I know this story all too well because I am not afraid to admit, I’ve been where you are. I get it and you’re ready to shift out of it.

I have always enjoyed the one on one in helping people through difficult times. My heart is that I can use my experience and skills to bring individuals to a place in their lives where they can experience wholeness and peace". We all have times in our lives that we find ourselves, or our relationships in a place of brokeness. At those times everyone needs someone to help them put things in perspective and begin anew. I would love to be a part of that process in your life. Joyce

If you have come to this website, I imagine you already know that something is bothering you. That something may be an uncomfortable feeling like depression, anger or anxiety, or it may be a desired goal that you have been unable to reach, like sobriety or a good marriage. I have been working with individuals and couples for over 30 years, trying to figure out what makes folks tick, and walking the journey with them as they look for new directions, new strengths and new ways to live life.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
