I am now scheduling half-day (3 hours) EMDR intensives for highly motivated clients who want condensed treatment. These days it's so easy to numb yourself and avoid dealing with issues that affect your well-being, your self-esteem, and your relationships. If you're feeling exhausted by this charade and you are ready to start peeling back the layers that are obscuring your true self, I can provide a soft place to land as you dig deep and heal. My curiosity and expertise can help you identify the mindset issues and past wounds that need to be healed to help you move toward self-acceptance, authenticity, and self-confidence.

Talking about sex can be very uncomfortable and feel awkward. It can be made worse by issues with our pelvic floor or reproductive system. This can leave you feeling disconnected from your body and/or your partner. Maybe you're noticing that you're avoiding sex or having sex that is painful or not pleasurable. Confusion, loneliness, shame, frustration are all common emotions that show up when we want something different in our sex lives but don't know how. I specialize in helping individuals and couples struggling with sex and pelvic floor dysfunction reconnect to themselves and each other through somatic and sex based therapies.

I am enthusiastic about working with those motivated to begin their counseling journey. In my previous career as a teacher, I developed effective skills for working with children, adolescents, and adults. I typically work with teens and adults who struggle to adjust after experiencing trauma, particularly sexual trauma and interpersonal violence. I am deeply passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community through coming out, life transitions, and marital and couples issues. Additionally, I enjoy working through issues of interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, and with adults with ADHD and/or Autism.

We're all seeking to be understood, embraced, and accepted while we navigate through life. While I genuinely love working with people from all walks of life, I specialize in working with adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other similar traumas, both acute and complex. I utilize a variety of avenues towards therapy to curate a tailored approach for each individual.

Life often seems to move so quickly, barely allowing a chance to take in all that we have experienced. Especially in times of change or intense grief, you may want a space to process your experiences-both the mundane moments and major life-changing events-in order to understand what is going on inside. Therapy can be the perfect space to sort through your experiences, search for meaning and understanding, and discern the path forward that is right for you.

Navigating the world is tough enough, but when you add being Neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, a single parent, a minority, or any number of marginalized identities on top of it the weight can appear unbearable. The effect our individual identities can have on our home life, job, social life, and our very sense of self can make dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting struggles, or engaging in self-care seem like a daunting task. We all strive for whole wellness but that looks different for everybody. The whole wellness you desire is not out of reach.

Are you a wanderer? Do you feel as though you've lead and guided yourself along the majority of your path due to circumstances beyond your control? Are you looking for a space where you can just let everything go? Typically, the wanderer often becomes the provider and tell me...who heals the provider? Those who have spent years figuring it out on their own due to their need to separate from trauma and abuse, parenting, caregiving, spirituality, strained family dynamics or any other life dynamic that has left you feeling vulnerable and misunderstood. You deserve a safe space to recover from traumas that you've encountered as well.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?

Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?

Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
