I have been trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I meet my clients where they are at in life. Life can be challenging, and it can be helpful to have someone listen empathetically and objectively without judgment to help you navigate life's challenges. Every individual is different, and my approach to therapy will reflect the individual's needs. Therapy requires trust and vulnerability, which can provoke anxiety for some people, but I assure you that I provide a safe, confidential, and compassionate space to explore experiences, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

I use a combination of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) skills that identify unhealthy thinking patterns and DBT ( Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills that improve ways to self-regulate emotions.
Life transitions are filled with many conflicting emotions. When emotions become overwhelming and it is difficult to make a decision than it is often time to find support. I am passionate about helping client's find direction during these confusing times by guiding them as they develop their own goals and strengths. I am a faith-based counselor working with adults and adolescents in the areas of trauma, suicidal ideation and self-harm, mood disorders, including depression, anxiety and bipolar as well as relationship challenges including recovery from emotionally abusive relationships and spiritual questioning.

The therapeutic approaches I rely upon most include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, DBT/Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Care.
Moving through day-to-day life can sometimes seem almost confounding; like ‘wow, how did life become so difficult!’ Experiencing major life transitions may sometimes be at the forefront; although, often times there is no obvious explanation for the overwhelming feelings that can completely upset life balance and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes the tools that were effective in managing life stressors in the past just no longer seem to work.

My approach is holistic and includes elements from person-centered, mindfulness, MBCT, DBT, existential, and attachment theory.
If you find yourself struggling to cope with life and all of your efforts to move forward have not worked the way you hoped. You may feel alone or that you cannot talk safely about your more personal problems with your friends or family. You desire a life that is not dictated by emotions rooted in past experiences, present anxieties, or future unknowns. You want to be kinder to yourself, be more effective with your emotions, and have better relationships.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
