As females, we often find ourselves overwhelmed, lost, emotionally and mentally distressed, anxious and completely "out of sorts" with no time for resolution. We attempt to juggle multiple roles, life and its difficulties, and our commitment to others, that we fall by the wayside. When do we say ENOUGH and get back to ourselves! Sometimes, it is difficult to know where to start. If this seems to be a concern, then a therapist is a great way to assist you in unveiling and restoring you to your Best SELF!

The quote, “Every person should find out before they die what they are running from and to, and why,” will be the foundation for our work together. This “running” often results in anxiety, depression, and other negative emotions and behaviors. One of my favorite things about this process is getting to know you and your past experiences in hopes that you might get to know more about yourself and the person you want to be going forward. My style is engaged, honest and relational. I offer a warm environment where we can address sensitive topics at a comfortable pace. We will work collaboratively and creatively to address unwanted patterns and behaviors that might have you feeling stuck. We may explore new strategies for things like coping, communicating and connecting in an effort to strengthen your sense of self-worth, relationships and quality of life.

I view my clients as fellow human beings in search of some type of change. For one reason or another, they feel stuck or unable to get where they want. Together we work towards growth by identifying the issues involved, establishing hopes and goals, and increasing awareness of recurring patterns that maintain dysfunction. I find that often these patterns were somehow adaptive, but are now "outdated" for life's current situation. As awareness of one's desires, perceptions, fears, and strengths increase, doors often begin to open. There are more options and more opportunities for change and connection with others.

Marriage and Family Therapy:Sex, Money and In-laws, we use to think these were the the main causes of relationship problems. We now know that many problems occur due to “Built Up Resentments and An Inability to Resolve Conflict”. Let me help you learn to communicate in ways that resolve these roadblocks and restore intimacy, trust and vulnerability with those you love.

Everyone faces challenges and sometimes those challenges are more than we can face alone. If you're looking into therapy, I imagine you're struggling with something significant in your life. Good for you for seeking help with these concerns! That is the first, and often hardest step; to admit there is a need for help. Often these circumstances are hard, frustrating, confusing, painful and overwhelming. You are not alone in these feelings! We can work together to navigate these struggles through a supportive therapeutic relationship. (I only see clients via telehealth)

Life presents each of us with our own unique experiences, and with that, our own set of issues, needs, and goals. It's important to know that we are all fallible human beings, who are not bound by our past. As such, we should not allow our past to control our future. I believe that we are capable of learning how our past experiences influence our current thoughts and behaviors, thus allowing for space to create new patterns in the process.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
