My name is Dr. Carla D. Ray, DSW, LCSW. I am the Founder & Owner of New Beginnings Behavioral Health Counseling. My skills and areas of expertise include childhood, adolescent and adult Psychotherapy. I am credentialed as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a doctorate of social work (DSW). As a social worker, for the past 17 years, I have provided an array of social work services to include case management and psychiatric treatment. I hold a Master of Social Work in Mental Health and Substance Abuse through Fayetteville State University and Doctorate Degree in Social Work from Capella University.

I enjoy working with those clients who recognize that change can happen and is good. I enjoy working with individuals, families, couples and groups. Those who recognize that change depends on them, individually and collectively. I do not cause change but only facilitate the process. As we are all in the process of living and life can sometimes be very difficult, we can learn and change everyday. Anxiety is my passion. I, too, have been there and understand. I have provided therapy for adults and adolescents in various settings for over 25 years as a Licenced Professional Counselor. I help individuals resolve various life challenges and issues, particularly treating panic disorder, anxiety, simple and complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, depersonalization and derealization disorders, nightmare disorders, chronic pain, compulsive eating, and somatic symptom disorder. My specialty is the treatment of psychological, spiritual, emotional & psychosomatic conditions shaped by the experience of small and large traumatic life events.

Alcohol. Tricky stuff. We go years and years and think we have it under control and before we know it we are over the cliff - absent a parachute. Drugs aren't much different... just faster and illegal. Sometimes our problems increase gradually until we turn around one day and think "done with this... not living this way anymore." Or it is that one nasty event you didn't even see coming: the accident and DUI, the separation-causing fight, the job loss. Embarrassment goes up; self-esteem goes down. The hole seems deep and hopeless. And still the drug, the drink keeps calling you back. Fear and bewilderment rule the day.

I am an LCSW with over 26 years of service to Child / Adolescent, and adult individuals with mental health and psychoactive substance use challenges. I have been recognized for my Clinical skills in Fulton and Dekalb counties as well as the Grady Health Care systems. I use the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory(SASSI) to support Individuals with interest or requested to have Substance Abuse Evaluations. As a Licensed, AASI Clinician; I am able to administer Sexual Interest Assessments to Adolescents and Adults.

As a licensed clinical psychologist of over 17 years, I have worked with thousands of high performers, especially black women and BIPOC, by helping them uncover hidden issues that get in the way of true work-life balance and the ability to enjoy the life they worked hard to build. I’ve found that high performers, particularly black women, have difficulty with selfcare and are exhausted emotionally, physically, and mentally. Work-life balance is both a mystery and a necessity, so much so that some say that it doesn’t exist. I beg to differ. I'm not an average therapist and my clients aren't average in their respective careers either.

I believe one of the bravest things a person can do, is to begin to understand their strength. When entering the therapy room with me, the expectation is that you are the expert of your life. It is not my job to tell you what to do but rather to assist you in discovering it on your own. I feel as if I didn’t choose to be a therapist, but rather this job chose me. My life experiences have brought me to the point in my life to be able to assist, support, and uplift my clients through whatever has brought them to this point in theirs.
