That is why I provide an ease about coming to therapy and attempt to make my clients feel comfortable beginning this process. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults helping them get through difficult transitions in their lives. My expertise lies in treating anxiety disorders, OCD as well as working with clients facing depression, grief, childhood trauma, self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation and parent-child interactions.
I believe in helping people discover their ability to be resilient and how to live in the present moment. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming with too many expectations from school, work, friends, etc. Anxiety is normal, until it becomes unmanageable and begins to restrict your ability to function in your daily life. I can help you push back on your anxiety and learn to feel better equipped to set boundaries with anxiety.

As a child and adolescent therapist, I acknowledge the joys and the challenges we as parents often experience. By working with children and their parents as a family system, there is an increase in the overall efficacy of treatment. Often, many of our struggles as a family stem from our ability to fully understand each others' experiences and view points. Learning to communicate more effectively, regulate emotions, and be more mindful in our every day lives can drastically improve our personal and familial experiences.

You sit on a bench, watching people walking down the street. They all seem so comfortable in their own skin. Life comes so easily to them. "So what's wrong with me?" Your brain's a chaotic mess. Your thoughts overlap and blur together, making concentrating impossible. Navigating your social life feels like walking through a minefield. The world is full of rules that you never learned. You’ve accomplished a lot in life but happiness eludes you. "Is this normal?" you wonder. You've found plenty of lifehacks online but you're too paralyzed to do them. You know you could finally make everything better if only your brain would let you.

Does it feel like life keeps happening to you and you struggle with feeling enough or confident to change things? This often stems from past experiences people left you feeling unloved, insignificant or inadequate. You have based your life on other's views & actions, but it's time you live for you. I help you transform into the version of you who is confident in all environments and situations. This lays the foundation for building authentic & healthy relationships with others, especially your parents. I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, & poor family relationships so I know it can feel defeating, but it’s possible to overcome.

Being born with a naturally intuitive nature presented many challenges; it felt overwhelming and burdensome most of the time, but something deep within knew that it was bigger than me. Yet, most days I felt different and out of place, a misfit… I was always highly sensitive to my environment and the pain that filled the space of the hearts of those around me. This unique gift of perception allowed me to feel what others were experiencing, namely their pain.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
