I work full-time in an HIV service organization primarily working in trauma and with those in the LGBT community.
I prefer to work with clients who are motivated towards change and doing what needs to be done in order to make that change happen. We will explore wants, needs, and barriers and use cognitive-based strategies to cope with life. I have several years of related experience trained in using Reality and Cognitive-Behavioral based therapies to empower clients to take responsibility and make decisions that are beneficial to their life.

I am a trauma-informed provider who supports individuals and couples navigating grief/loss, conflict, trauma and transition. I am passionate about supporting folks identifying with neurodiversity (eg. autistic, AuDH, diagnosed with ADHD, etc ). Clients I support often struggle with the impact of stories about who they "should be", questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of themselves to create a sense of belonging. Understanding our stories is one of the bravest things we can do. Together we can explore yours, identify your values and strengths, and pursue healing and growth.

My range of expertise, including talk psychotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy, mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed approaches are all tailored to meet your specific needs, and reach your desired outcomes.
You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or no longer recognize this version of yourself. Or, perhaps you're feeling generally dissatisfied. Maybe you've tried "fixing" problems with limited results. Therapy is about understanding who you are and what you need in the present, prioritizing needs with realistic expectations, and fostering growth in a meaningful and sustainable way. Stress, perceived failure, and/or hopelessness don't have to define you. Our lived experiences inform, they don't define. I will help you create space in your life to strengthen what's already there, and sustainably build the rest with purpose and intention.

I operate from a trauma informed and strengths based approach, utilizing techniques informed by Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness.
I often work with people who are feeling stuck and disconnected from themselves and their loved ones because of past experiences that continue to impact them in the present. You may notice that strategies you developed to survive those periods of your life no longer serve you, but are unsure how to change. Taking the first step to get help and approach the thoughts, emotions, and events that have felt too difficult to touch can be intimidating and anxiety provoking. As your therapist it is my goal to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and accepting environment for you to process your past and find new ways of caring for yourself today.

Aside from my personal experiences in life, I have the education, training, and professional experience working with teens and adults managing anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, co-dependency, and having a hard time adjusting to life circumstances.
I work alongside people that are seeking guidance and understanding on managing anxiety, depressed moods, negative thoughts, uncertainty, alcohol & drug use, or any other uncomfortable state of mind. Some people are interested in exploring their past and identifying how it affects them in their current life, others just want an objective person to speak to and process their thoughts with. There's no one specific reason for seeking out a therapist/counselor and nothing has to be "wrong" in order to do so.

You do not have to have lived through something literally life-threatening to be a trauma survivor. If you didn't get your basic or emotional needs consistently met during infancy and early childhood, you likely struggle in your adult relationships. You might be overly clingy, avoidant, or self-sabotaging with your friendships and romantic partners. Or maybe, for you, it shows up as anxiety, avoidance, dissociation, low self-worth, poor boundaries, and even self-destructive behaviors. This is called complex trauma or attachment-based trauma, and it can be healed!

Accepting new clients! I work primarily with LGBTQ+ people who have experienced trauma and are looking to improve their lives. This might be wanting to feel less anxious or depressed, have healthier relationships, have a deeper knowledge of yourself, or something else. I also have a particular interest in working with clients living with disabilities and chronic conditions, especially those who are "in transition" from non-disabled to disabled. I am a Qualifying WPATH Member and can provide mental health services for individuals looking for support specific to gender-related topics, like social & medical transitioning.

It is my belief that these symptoms result from experiencing psychological and physical trauma.
Experience tells me that most people who seek counseling feel unable to make changes in their life that could bring them greater happiness. I consider it my responsibility and a privilege to facilitate your journey of self-empowerment to make these desired changes. Together we will explore how current patterns of feeling, thinking and acting could be altered by increasing mindfulness and self-compassion. While most of our focus is on the present and future, I also seek to honor your past by exploring how unresolved feelings may be hindering your growth and ability to meet personal goals.

Working through trauma requires tremendous courage. No one wants to find themselves having to focus on healing the past, but once you realize that’s what you need to move forward, there’s no looking back. Whether you are dealing with triggers, flashbacks, nightmares, relationship issues, anxiety, chronic health problems, or simply struggling to stop thinking about unpleasant events from the past, trauma can affect us all differently. I have the experience and training to support you as you shift the patterns you have developed in response to adversity.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
