I believe that children may not always have the words to express what is going on in their world. As a therapist, I can help build self-esteem, increase coping and emotional regulation skills, decrease anxious behaviors, & nurture creativity. I can provide support in helping build resilience and strengthen relationships with others by facilitating communication through talk, play and expressive arts therapy. I use art, music, play, and modeling to promote emotional growth and learning throughout our sessions together. I provide a safe space for everyone who walks through my door, no matter age or background.

I also am a firm believer in play therapy, that can consist of art therapy or hanging with my dog Charlie!.
Life can be filled with a lot of difficulty but it doesn’t need to be so overwhelming or confusing! If you feel numb, overwhelmed, or sad for no reason, then you are not alone. Finding relief and peace in these struggles is possible through therapy. As a therapist I believe in being a friend and a guide by providing tools to improve mental health, coping skills, opportunities to process emotions/events, and even space for venting if needed. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly and work primarily with adolescents and young adults who have/had experienced depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, sexual abuse, grief, and religious trauma.

I will work hard to build a safe space for your child or teen to explore emotions and change thought and action patterns through play, art, and pet therapy.
Are you getting multiple complaint calls from daycare or school about your child's unruly behavior? Does your child have trouble managing small disappointments or changes without crying like the world has ended? Does your child not listen or get easily distracted? Does your child or teen struggle with social skills, making poor choices, having low grades or low confidence? Have things turned to being unsafe in the home or school? Have you and your partner argued about how to handle your child? Turn that frown upside down!

As the author of the upcoming internationally published book Artful Grieving (Jessica Kingsley Publishers), I am on the cutting edge of combining art therapy techniques with traditional grief counseling to address all losses.
Services are anchored in acceptance of the individual regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religious/spiritual beliefs. My goal in starting my own practice was to create a space where everyone felt welcome and free to be themselves. Recognizing that no two people are the same, services are customized to meet the unique needs of the individual.

As an Art Therapist, I believe in the power of expression as a form of healing.
No matter what phase you are in life at this moment, taking a step towards healing is a brave act and you are inherently worth that investment. I believe that there is liberation in learning to love and accept yourself completely. Together, we will unpack what traumas you may be holding in your body to build more meaningful and healthier relationships not only to yourself, but to those around you. The journey to living your most authentic self can be challenging, and together I can offer a brave space to explore what that looks like for you.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
