I utilize evidence-based modalities such as Person- Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
On the surface, things are going well, but you’ve been feeling anxious and depressed for a long time. You often believe that you don’t want to be a burden to your loved ones, so you keep your battles to yourself. Do you find yourself struggling to reach out for help? Does the thought of asking for help overwhelm you? I'd like to reassure you that therapy is a safe space. Throughout my experience I have found it to be the greatest honor, privilege, and reward to be able to be a witness to the journey towards healing with my clients. I emphasize the importance of creating a space for you to show up as your most authentic self.

I am trained in DBT, which a a therapy tool most often used to help those stuck on intense emotions, black and white thinking, conflict in relationships, and intense mood swings.
I view every person as a unique individual with specific goals, perspectives, barriers, and background. Relationships (missing and broken), demands and expectations that lead to letdowns and depression, trauma, undesired repetitive behaviors, refusal to accept things as they are and shame ("something is wrong with me") are just a few of the common themes I help individuals and families with. I have experience with families, individuals and adolescent groups. My hope is to partner with people with a strong willingness to participate who want restoration.

This is a great chance to discuss how DBT can help your child develop vital skills for managing emotions and building resilience.
“You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." - Navigating today's world as a kid can be overwhelming and can affect the whole family. They face unique challenges that can lead to intense emotions and behavioral struggles. As a parent, seeing your child struggle is one of the hardest things you’ll ever face - here’s the good news: change is possible, and your child doesn’t have to face these struggles alone! I believe that when children learn to recognize and manage their emotions, they develop important skills that benefit their adult lives...Emotions are powerful but so are you, together we’ll learn to navigate the waves!

The therapeutic approaches I rely upon most include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, DBT/Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Care.
Moving through day-to-day life can sometimes seem almost confounding; like ‘wow, how did life become so difficult!’ Experiencing major life transitions may sometimes be at the forefront; although, often times there is no obvious explanation for the overwhelming feelings that can completely upset life balance and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes the tools that were effective in managing life stressors in the past just no longer seem to work. I invite you to schedule a session with me and look forward to assisting you in working through whatever is challenging or interfering with your being the best you and ‘living your very best life.

If you find yourself struggling to cope with life and all of your efforts to move forward have not worked the way you hoped. You may feel alone or that you cannot talk safely about your more personal problems with your friends or family. You desire a life that is not dictated by emotions rooted in past experiences, present anxieties, or future unknowns. You want to be kinder to yourself, be more effective with your emotions, and have better relationships.

Navigating life and all of its choices can be difficult for everyone. I work with children ages 4-16+ and adults who need a caring, listening, licensed professional counselor (LPC). Effective changes come from setting goals in a safe, nonjudgmental space. We will work together to explore and set goals through evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy ( DBT).  Achieving goals that are set in our sessions can provide benefits over an entire lifetime.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
