I have had experiences in life where I have felt depressed, anxiety stress, etc.
Therapy goals start with establishing a strong rapport and therapeutic relationship with the client. We begin by identifying recurring and underlying concerns, and explore goals, intentions, and aspirations of the client. Next, we narrow down the concerns to find 1-2 concerns that we can create clear, measurable and attainable goals. Once the goals are established, we can start an action plan to track and achieve those goals.

Each human being is wonderfully unique and amazing with their own set of individual strengths. Life often offers challenges that can take us away from enjoying our fully authentic selves; bringing on negative and anxious feelings that severely affect our mental health and quality of life. Change occurs all around us, and it can often feel overwhelming. Whether you're adapting to a new environment or facing unexpected circumstances, it's only natural to feel anxious and experience self-doubt along the way. Hi, I'm Liz, I'm the daughter of immigrant parents and understand the responsibility and stress that might come along with it. Despite wanting to put a smile on and keep going, I know firsthand that it is difficult and we need someone to listen and support us. My approach to counseling is rooted in empathy and collaboration.

I also believe people can change if they can 1) admit the need and 2) be willing to let go of the old, push through fears and make room for something different.
Thanks for wanting to get to know me because I want to get to know you too. Well to start, I got into the counseling profession because in high school I found classmates and strangers would naturally tell me their problems. Back then, I just listened because I did not have much life experience or knowledge on theories. So I dismissed from the idea of helping people because I did not think I was being much help by "just listening". However since that time, I have learned to understand and respect the power of listening; and I have had a few birthdays and gained life experiences along the way. Additionally, I earned two degrees from M

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
