In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so you can make sense of your loss and move forward with a healthy perspective.
Have you recently experienced a significant loss? Are you finding yourself preoccupied with your loss & wondering how you might make it day-to-day? Feelings of grief are a result of many different types of losses(loved one, marriage, job, pregnancy, & so forth). The most common, perhaps is the loss of a loved one. While it is true that are few things in life that we will experience more intensely than the loss of a loved one, other forms of loss can be equally difficult to overcome. With most loss, compassionate processing & utilizing coping strategies are needed in order to make sense of our feelings so we can move forward healed.

Working with different cultural backgrounds has given me the experience to help clients explore their thoughts and emotions about their life experiences such as trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and loss, from their individual and cultural vantage points.
Life is a beautiful journey; however, navigating through its twists and turns can sometimes come with challenges that may cloud our vision from seeing all of its splendor and beauty along the way. Different stressors may impact you, preventing you from living as optimally as you want to. The good news is I am here and ready to assist you on your path to becoming the version of yourself you strive for. As a team, you and I can work on finding ways to assist you to work through some of the stressors and challenges that you may be experiencing.

Though trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, my humanistic background is the foundation for my belief that true healing occurs within relationships. Because I value the power of relationship, I want you to know that I have personally experienced hard things too. My own experiences with anxiety, loss and trauma all contribute to my caring, compassionate and personalized approach in therapy. I also believe that every behavior has a purpose and a payoff. If we can understand what drives the behavior, then we can begin work on strategies that will develop new skills to help you.

As a retired Fire Sergeant and EMT of 26 years, a 12 year veteran of the Army Reserves, I have experienced death and dying, loss, birth, and worlds turned upside down.
I want to inspire and encourage clients by using a non-judgemental approach, while listening carefully with patience and concern, so that I may hear what the client's soul is saying. While applying the proper treatment therapeutically, together we can find that balanced and healthy place.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
