I approach therapy with total respect for your unique lens, unconditional acceptance, validation, and with a focus on your specific goals and needs.
You may be here because you are seeking the freedom of not living in fear. Perhaps you find that a lot of your time is occupied by rumination or trouble tolerating uncertainty. You might describe yourself as ‘plagued with self-doubt’. I’m here for you while we navigate these challenges together. I approach therapy through the lens of guiding my clients to learn to manage the uncertainty and discomfort in what we don't have control of and instead focus on acting on their values, what is important to them/their growth, healing their relationship with themselves, and learning to be an active participant in their own lives.

Some of the primary therapeutic orientations I focus on while working with clients include but are not limited to utilizing a cognitive-behavioral and acceptance and commitment therapy approach.
My experience has allowed me to work with very diverse populations and utilize multicultural counseling competencies to promote equity and inclusion in my work. I have served clients with a wide range of presenting concerns such as substance use, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, PTSD, and other co-occurring disorders. It is important for me to provide a safe space for my clients to feel comfortable working through issues and concerns that they are experiencing. I believe it is important to support clients in setting goals, learning how to problem solve, and developing coping skills.

I’m a fan of CBT, DBT, and ACT.
Hello! My name is Kinsey King and I am a licensed professional counselor. I admire a person who is seeking to make a positive change. With that in mind, I use unconditional positive regard, reflection, and gentle confrontation in my practice. I love helping individuals work to identify and address character traits and behaviors left over from survival situations- such as in complex ptsd or following a traumatic childhood. I provide gentle direction using exposure, behavioral activation, and cognitive restructuring to address anxiety and depressive symptoms. I use interventions from CBT, DBT, and CPT, primarily.

I utilize a unique blend of therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to bring about change.
People seek help for many reasons. I often tell clients, "I don't know how you feel, but I know the feeling." Sometimes it's the daily hassles that have become too much to handle and other times we are overwhelmed by serious life events. Whether you are struggling with the stress and strain of a current issue or coping to the best of your ability with a life-long problem, I offer a space to feel safe and connected as we navigate barriers to you becoming the best version of yourself. Offering IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL psychotherapy.

My practice is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients make steps toward a meaningful life.
“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen” Brene Brown. I believe reaching out for counseling support takes courage as it leads us out of our comfort zone. Finding a supportive counselor is an important first step in the counseling process and I base my practice on being a supportive and non-judgmental partner to help you navigate through difficult times. I wholeheartedly believe that making one or two small changes can free a person up to move toward the life they want to live. I love the work I do!

Are you feeling helpless watching your child or teen struggle with depression and anxiety? We understand and we are here to help. As a parent, seeing your child or teen struggle with challenging behaviors, acting out, depression, anxiety, self-injury or even suicidal thoughts can leave you feeling completely helpless. You might be wondering: Why is my child so irritable, withdrawn, and distant? How can I support them when they shut me out? What can I do to break this cycle of sadness and anxiety? Are there better ways to improve our communication and strengthen our relationship?

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
