I primarily work with preteens and teens struggling with depression and anxiety. Often times, I have seen these presenting issues emerge due to conflicts in identity, within relationships, and even thinking about the future. I also see kids struggling with trauma as well, ranging in varying degrees of traumatic events the child has endured. While many of my kids that I have worked with come from different backgrounds, many strive for the same type of goals: Purpose & meaning, self-awareness, and happiness.

I am a down to earth, approachable person who enjoys meeting people and helping them find a way to navigate through the obstacles that life puts in their way. I do this by using the strengths clients already have, and by creating and developing new ones which we find together. I develop intimate relationships with my clients; therapy is serious business and there is a lot of work to be done, but I work side-by-side with my clients to achieve the goals we create in our initial sessions. There is room for laughter too, and there is plenty of that in therapy also.

As humans, our natural inclination is to move away from pain. But at a certain point, we may find that the strategies that once protected us are causing us even more pain. Together we can find ways to break old cycles that are keeping you stuck in order for you to move into the wholeness you desire. Many times when healing feels impossible, it is only an indication that what we have tried so far will not suffice. Often this requires slowing down and trusting parts of ourselves that we have long ignored.

Many of us come to therapy with a destination in mind, yet the process is where transformation occurs. Like the trek to a mountain peak, therapy is a process of preparation, overcoming obstacles, learning to set a healthy pace, and celebrating small victories along the way. I cherish supporting clients as they embark on journeys of self-discovery, healing, reconciliation, and more, while jointly navigating the twists and turns the path may take. The journey awaits! Whether this is your first time in therapy or you're continuing the journey, I am eager to come alongside you as you discover and pursue your therapy goals.

My ultimate joy as a therapist lies in helping others return to their core essence. Often, we feel lost in life due to traumatic experiences, transitions that shake our sense of identity, unhelpful social conditionings, or difficult relationship dynamics. Whether particular struggles present themselves as depression, anxiety, or PTSD, it is my goal to help clients discover the root cause of their suffering. In therapy with me, the client’s journey back to their core essence begins with a therapeutic foundation of a holistic, trauma-informed approach that addresses suffering from a culturally sensitive, body-spirit-mind lens.

Do you find yourself frustrated, drained, anxious, and overwhelmed, but you have no clue why? I meet clients where they are and use empathy and support to help them work through their issues. Anxiety and depression can be debilitating. Together we can find ways for you to cope and find your inner peace. Relationships are tough because we all have different ways of communicating and different ideas about conflict management. Together we can explore those beliefs and work toward resolutions. Having the space to talk through your struggles in a non-judgmental place is empowering. I would love to have the opportunity to guide you!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
