My areas of specialization are: bariatric pre-surgical evaluations (weight-loss surgery evals), depression and anxiety, women's issues, disordered eating (compulsive overeating and binge eating), self-esteem issues and relationship issues.
My practice is founded on the belief that despite our life challenges, there is a silver lining behind each dark cloud that is waiting to be found. Whether the rainbow represents a diverse group of people coming together, the promise of a better life, or a pot of shining gold waiting at the end, one thing is true: rainbows are often a symbol of hope, and that is exactly what I hold for each person with whom I work: HOPE.

Talk therapy is not enough. My approach to therapy focuses on combining cognitive and somatic therapies to strengthen connection to self, and reduce the blocks to healing. The goal is to connect to your authenticity, and have the freedom to find positive and affirming ways to enjoy relationships with self and others. The goal is to experience life without shutting down or disconnecting, and/or using destructive behaviors to reduce pain and distress. Attaining the freedom to choose what you want for yourself, begins with taking the first step.

Committed love relationships are the most powerful and prized of all human healing. Yet, for many, being in a relationship can bring frustration as well as comfort, heartache as well as joy. My specialty is to help couples improve and connect through proven processes and tools developed by Dr Harville Hendrix, author of the seminal New York Times Best Seller, Getting The Love You Want: a guide for couples. As a Certified Imago Therapist and Workshop Presenter, I help couples regain the safety, compassion and energy that brought them together in the first place.

As a therapist, I see myself as a guide—walking with you through whatever life has brought you, and will continue to bring. You deserve to know yourself well and to move towards peace. My goal is to offer an environment where you can take an honest look at who you are and your circumstances while providing empathy, a chance to be heard, and a moment to connect with yourself. I kindly challenge harmful ways of thinking and suggest new avenues for growth. My practice style is influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Ecological Systems Theory, and others.

I am a highly skilled Licensed Clinical Psychologist with specialized training in multicultural psychology, trauma, and women's issues.
I am a relational psychotherapist, which means that I believe relationships (with family, friends, coworkers, higher powers, our relationship with our self, etc.) often play a role in our suffering and, yet, also play a crucial role in our healing. Relatedly, the relationship between the therapist and client is of utmost importance and requires trust and authenticity for both parties involved. In my work with clients, I use a variety of individualized, eclectic approaches to help each person meet their goals and needs. My therapeutic style is warm, direct, empowering, and collaborative.

I specialize in women's issues, such as learning how to establish parenting-work-life integration and bring emotional intimacy into relationships.
If a person experiences physical pain, seeking treatment is expected. To me, it is important to do the same when one experiences emotional and/or mental pain. Whether it be lack of balance, understanding a past/recent traumatic event, or navigating difficult relationships, life can leave us feeling off balance and disconnected from people and things that mean the most to us. Being able to help people heal from emotional pain, restore connections, and find joy in their lives is my greatest passion.

I work with a broad range of clients helping them with relationship issues, career counseling, mood disorders, personality disorders, sexual and gender identity, women's issues, trauma, and life transitions, among many others.
Let's face it: life is messy. We are all broken people living in a broken world and doing the best that we can. And sometimes our best just doesn't seem to be good enough. We can find ourselves disillusioned and heartbroken and yet we don't know how we wound up here. We long for more out of this life and yet we don't know how to get there. Whether you are grieving a loss, struggling to make a decision, or simply find yourself stuck in a rut, counseling can help you understand not just the origin of your problems but also assist you in developing practical coping skills and solutions.

You feel like you're not a good enough mother, but you're afraid to admit it to anyone so you're feeling more alone than you ever imagined. It wasn't supposed to be like this. How are other people doing it? You're feeling so overwhelmed you can't think straight, and can hardly handle what used to feel like the simplest of tasks... You're wondering if you'll ever get your old life back, if you'll ever be able to go through the day without crying or lashing out at the people you love most. I get it, and I can help.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
