Many people have told me they find working with me with grief and loss issues helpful.
If you are wanting to make some positive, but perhaps difficult changes in your life, it can be helpful to talk with a skilled professional. I have been in private practice for almost 30 years. I would recommend you visit my web site for more information about me and to get a beter sense about whether we would be a good "fit". I would also recommend that you call me and have a conversation about what you are looking for. After speaking with me, hearing my voice, and paying attention to my response to you, you'll know better whether I am someone you want to share a journey with.

My areas of specialization are: bariatric pre-surgical evaluations (weight- loss surgery evals), depression and anxiety, women's issues, disordered eating (compulsive overeating and binge eating), self-esteem issues and relationship issues.
My practice is founded on the belief that despite our life challenges, there is a silver lining behind each dark cloud that is waiting to be found. Whether the rainbow represents a diverse group of people coming together, the promise of a better life, or a pot of shining gold waiting at the end, one thing is true: rainbows are often a symbol of hope, and that is exactly what I hold for each person with whom I work: HOPE.

Mental health is essential in our everyday life. If you’ve been dealing with everyday stressors, depression, or anxiety it’s important to process and deal with these obstacles for balance life and mental health stability. My focus consists of assisting my clients with identifying their ability to learning how to implement healthy coping skills, develop confidence, and much more. I put emphasis on an effective recovery process, which consists of focusing on the client future rather than their past. It’s important to assist the client with understanding the problem but focusing more on their recovery results.

Talk therapy is not enough. My approach to therapy focuses on combining cognitive and somatic therapies to strengthen connection to self, and reduce the blocks to healing. The goal is to connect to your authenticity, and have the freedom to find positive and affirming ways to enjoy relationships with self and others. The goal is to experience life without shutting down or disconnecting, and/or using destructive behaviors to reduce pain and distress. Attaining the freedom to choose what you want for yourself, begins with taking the first step.

I believe that good psychotherapy is rooted in a strong collaborative relationship. I began my career decades ago in community mental health, and I have worked in many different formats and settings with clients of all ages and dispositions. I have a good grasp of the relationship between immediate passions and long-term developmental needs, and I am flexibly responsive in helping clients to navigate apparent conflicts between them. I have many different skills to bring to bear to assist in examining these issues, and in making and implementing good decisions. These skills include humanistic, gestalt, and cognitive behavioral therapy, and hypnosis.

I am a trauma-informed provider who supports individuals and couples navigating grief/ loss, conflict, trauma and transition. I am passionate about supporting folks identifying as neurodiverse (eg. autistic, AuDH, diagnosed with ADHD, etc ). Clients I support often struggle with the impact of stories about who they "should be", questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of themselves to create a sense of belonging. Understanding our stories is one of the bravest things we can do. Together we can explore yours, identify your values and strengths, and pursue healing and growth.

I am here to provide a safe space to be heard, to be supported, and to help you identify your unique gifts and strengths. Together we can collaborate to restore balance to your life and let some of the light back in.

My counseling experience covers a variety of issues, including sexual abuse, adverse childhood experiences/trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, communication, suicide/self-harm, spirituality, parenting, self-esteem, anger, and grief.
Life certainly takes unexpected turns! How, then, do we live balanced, authentic lives in the midst of intense stress, loss, and change? My goal is to help you examine, heal, grow, and gain perspective. Like peeling back layers of an onion, therapy provides clients the opportunity to see that many life events are interconnected by family patterns, past trauma, grief and loss, boundary issues, and learned coping strategies, to name a few. Therapy also gives clients opportunities to strategically prepare for the future, explore personal values and spirituality, strengthen relationships, and clarify goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
