I love working with adults, teenagers and families of all kinds. Individuals and families who are navigating the impacts of change, difference in neurotypes, changes in identity, loss, divorce or simply feeling disconnected can get stuck. Seeking support and finding time to dedicate to therapy is a brave first step in determining your course, and I honor you for it. As a queer, cis-woman, I welcome people of all backgrounds in my practice and have experience working with diverse populations including autistic individuals, people with ADD/ADHD, the LGBTQ+ community and immigrants.

Do you love video games? Comic books? Dungeons and Dragons? Do feel nervous or afraid all the time? Or sad, disconnected? Have you ever felt like an outcast, misfit, or weirdo? Have you ever asked yourself "Is any of this even real?" or "Am I an NPC?" If so, you may have just found your therapist. I work with geeks, nerds, dorks, and dweebs, LGBTQIA folx, the Kink and Polyamory/ENM communities and people of all cultures and spiritualities. So let's play Minecraft while you process, write fanfic about overcoming adversity, or if you're brave, use Dark Souls to practice coping with big emotions. Makes therapy sound kinda fun, right?

I love working with professionals in the throes of their careers as well as parents dealing with the stresses of everyday life including raising children, living with adult children or children with special needs, or dealing with aging parents. My clients desire to improve their circumstances, but do not have the resources to make their goals a reality (yet). They may feel stuck in a limited situation with their careers or family situation but yearn to address what is going on their own terms.

Do you feel not good enough and like you have to be or appear perfect to be loved? Are you overwhelmed, tired, and struggling with anxiety and sadness? Do you feel unsatisfied in life and lonely but also protective of your needs for quiet time as an introvert? Maybe you identify as Highly Sensitive or have chronic anxiety and have a lot of information and insight, but haven't really been able to shift in a real world way.

You are not alone. I see you. I hear you. And, yes, I understand. A wise person once said, “Sometimes you have to lose your mind to gain peace of mind.” What if, on your journey back to peace, sanity, and being you again, you had a personal somebody who was intentional about seeing, hearing, and understanding you, the realist version of you? In our counseling relationship, I commit to being a passenger on your life journey to peace and healing, guiding and supporting you along the way. Let's take a road trip discussing in detail all the experiences and moments that contributed to the good and the bad that make you you.

I used to ask myself, "What am I going to do with my life?". Life has a funny way of pointing us in a direction and I followed it. Since 2009, I've been working with individuals, teens, children, families and couples in a variety of work settings. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2007 from Georgia State University then graduated from Argosy University in 2010 with a Master's in Community Counseling.

We are all living a story, and like any good narrative, our chronicles are filled with various characters, diverse settings, and twists and turns of the plot. Along the way, we face conflict - with those closest to us, with the workings of the world, and within ourselves. We long for understanding, resolution, and realization of the intention and purpose of our design. The human story can be one of freedom and flourishing, but flourishing is only possible if we are free, and breaking free can be challenging and wearisome on our own.

I primarily work with young adults, to early 30s. My work with clients focuses on self discovery; exploring parts, sides, and aspects of Self they have never met before. Our work together is centered around embodiment and connection with the most authentic and genuine Capital-S Self. I work from a mixture of lenses, including systemic and holistic; understanding that every struggle an individual faces does not exist in a vacuum outside of oppressive and controlling systems. Sometimes work with me is deconstructing how these systems have defined and categorized you: who are you in spite of these systems?

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
