My "ideal client" is someone who is motivated to collaborate with me to discover effective solutions to the challenges faced in their daily lives. The majority of my clients need assistance in locating the sources of their strength and power. I try to begin working on this from the first session. I try to strike a balance between being an empathetic, active listener and motivating clients to become more self-sufficient in "living in the solution."

Up front, I'm not the therapist for everyone. I don't have a flowery sales pitch about self-fulfillment and safe spaces, I'll probably be wearing an old t-shirt and jeans, I encourage expressive profanity, and I have more tattoos than your average therapist. Most of my caseload is trauma and PTSD. Much of the trauma work involves complex trauma with co-occurring dissociation, personality disorders, substance abuse, and anger. My work with trauma clients includes adult and adolescent survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, both active duty and retired military personnel, and first responders.

Hello, My name is Kevin Crabtree. I'm a licensed Professional counselor in the state of GA. I wanted to be therapist from the time I saw Deanna Troi on Star Trek the Next Generation. I've been blessed with a clarity of vision and have deeply enjoyed my life's work, so often counseling doesn't feel like work to me, as much as me serving my highest purpose to help others. I began working with clients in 2006. Since then I have worked with a wide variety of clients from at-risk children and families, federal and state prisoners, and most recently military service members and families.

I enjoy working with people to help them understand that they can change their lives on their own. I believe it is important to understand that nobody is born to be unhappy. You can be the agent of change in your life. It may feel overwhelming when you consider change, but if we break the steps down together, it is usually pretty manageable.

I use a variety of Strengths-Based Techniques and Cognitive Therapies (CBT, CT-R) to address anxiety, depression, men's issues, relationships, and coping with diabetes.
It takes courage to reach out for help when you struggle or feel stuck. As a therapist, I'm dedicated to creating a secure setting where my clients can express themselves and work through obstacles, adversity, and life changes. Therapy provides an opportunity for clients to question long-held beliefs that may no longer be beneficial to their present lives and make lasting change. In my practice, I work to create a non-judgmental and affirming environment where you can explore, process, and feel. My approach is collaborative and strengths-focused.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
