I'm drawn to Robert Frost's saying "the best way out is always through." It captures a sense of deep suffering and illustrates the type of relief that the process of therapy can bring. As a psychotherapist, I walk beside you on that journey. I offer a safe place for exploration and the accountability necessary for change. I am licensed in the states of New York and Georgia and see individuals as well as couples in my practice. Although I treat a wide range of issues, I specialize in the areas of addiction, grief, and trauma.

You deserve the gifts of therapy and my goal is to help challenge the sea of negative voices & self-critical tapes; especially those linked to trauma, low self-esteem, expectations, and other burdens.
Now Accepting Virtual Clients in 39 states! Check my website to see if I'm practicing near you. Congratulations! Your search landed you on the page of a trauma-informed, compassionate, and affirming psychologist. A proud Morehouse Man, my journey has taught me that life can hard and the road to success can be lonely-especially in settings that lack diversity. This is further complicated when asking for help is frowned upon because of cultural mistrust and expectations. Hesitation or unwarranted self-appraisal can result when, instead, you should be celebrating your many accomplishments, your strength and undying resiliency!

I have experience helping adults and adolescents process depression, LGBT issues, spiritual abuse, trauma, addiction, and more.
Being a person in the world today is more challenging than it has ever been. Sometimes we carry habits and beliefs into adulthood that can make it even harder. As we go through life we develop skills and interpret information in ways that help us to survive and cope with our environment. It is the brain's way of protecting us and preventing future pain. None of us are broken, but we may be applying skills and information in the present that are no longer helpful or relevant. I believe that developing awareness and understanding of these core beliefs and instincts is the first step toward healing and creating lasting change.

I enjoy working with clients with a desire to work through the uncomfortable stress of living with anxiety, depression, trauma and the drama of family.
My work focuses on helping clients come to recognize patterns within themselves and then go about the very fulfilling work of changing them from the inside out. Each of us has taken in patterns of belief about the world and how it "works" by our parents, families and others. We accept those patterns as "who we are." Sometimes those beliefs and patterns cause pain to ourselves and others and we find ourselves looking outside ourselves for change in our lives. Inner work is challenging, but it can lead to a deep appreciation and recognition of who we are and our responsibility in our life.

I will teach you about anxiety, depression, trauma, and how your self-protective strategies keep you safe.
As a client-centered therapist, I believe in the human capacity to "self-actualize." In psychology, self-actualization is achieved when you're able to reach your full potential. I have learned that we are more alike than different in this work. Most people want to feel seen, heard, loved, valued, protected, and connected. Where one is missing, there is usually an amplification in anxiety. I am in the empathy business. I use connection and evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help clients clarify their "why" and navigate a path to deeper fulfillment—professionally and personally.

Hello! I am Alex Hopkins of Early Connections Child & Family Counseling. I specialize in counseling boys ages 8-18, and young men ages 19-22. Many of the young people I work with are recovering from trauma, and need a safe place to heal. Others are struggling to fit in with their peers, and need to know they're not alone. Some of them are navigating the tricky waters of sexual development, or identify as LGBTQ+ and need a place where they are welcomed and affirmed. A lot of the young people I work with feel anxious and/or depressed and want to feel hopeful again. All of the people I work with want to feel safe, seen, and secure.

I bring a trauma-informed perspective with advanced understanding of how events and feelings are connected to our body, brain, and the world around us.
I am excited to connect with people who find themselves ready for a change, but perhaps unsure of how to make that happen for themselves. I enjoy helping people explore all parts of their life to help make sense of present situations and to make a plan for a healthier future. This can look like discussing nutrition, exercise, emotional intelligence, past relationships and family dynamics, as well as a myriad of other topics. I prioritize a holistic approach for not only my clients, but for my own life as well and have personally experienced healthy change from this perspective.

My clients range from ages 10 years old to 75. I work with clients who have experienced PTSD, childhood abuse, dissociative disorders, as well, as anxiety and depression. Many of my clients have had cognitive behavior therapy for years, yet, still are struggling with past trauma. I work with different modalities that help clients get to the root of what is holding them back and help guide them with moving forwards in their lives. I also enjoy consulting with other therapists who work with DID and CPTSD clients.
