I offer treatment for issues related to pregnancy, motherhood, relationship distress, postpartum depression/ anxiety, and much more.
Being a mother is challenging. You have more worries, less time, and no room for "self-care." You may question your abilities, your partner, your career path, and more. You may even be anxious about delivering your baby. Have you completely lost yourself in a sea of stress, worry, and sadness? You are not alone. I am a mother, wife, and survivor of perinatal anxiety. I understand the fluctuating hormones that can cause our mood disturbances. I want to help you to manage your anxiety, replace your depressive thoughts, and understand the chemical changes that cause them. With individual or couples therapy you will be well!

I have 20 years of counseling experience and have done extensive post graduate training in marriage and family therapy as well as in perinatal mental health.
Life can be hard. Sometimes we have difficulty communicating with our boss or loved ones. Sometimes we have difficulty adjusting to new circumstances. At times, we may feel stuck and unsure of how to initiate change. Other times we may want to delve deeper and truly understand our motivations and desires. Sometimes we just want to feel heard. I strive to create a space safe where my clients feel comfortable sharing. I actively engage in conversation with my clients, meet them where they are and work collaboratively with them to bridge the gap between their current state of being and living their most fulfilled lives.

I offer both group and individual therapy for people on a fertility journey, including infertility, as well as pregnancy, "fourth trimester," and parenting after infertility, for people identifying as heterosexual, LGBTQIA+, Single Mothers By Choice, and/or Single Fathers By Choice.
Are you on a fertility journey? Have you experienced obstacles along the way? Perhaps nothing is as disempowering as struggling with fertility. For many of us, issues with fertility mark the first time that we have wanted our bodies to do something that they seem not capable of doing. Struggles with fertility are traumatic experiences. Maybe we feel removed from friends with children, siblings with children, or parents who may not understand. Is it any wonder why we may be struggling?

I am certified to treat Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders and have received extensive training in the field of cancer wellness.
At each stage, we face different challenges that can be tough to move throughout. I specialize in treating adults during transitions and adjustments through life. Being an adolescent is tough, but what about that decade or a few after? Emerging adults at the crossroads of life, love, and career. Women transforming into mothers, that perinatal and postpartum rollercoaster right into parenting. A difficult health diagnosis where you have to explore what your new life is. At all these crossroads, we can get anxiety and depression, or feel paralyzed with fear or loss, and at anytime, any of these feelings can bubble up and over.

I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for the State of Georgia. I enjoy working with clients who are facing problems with infertility, women's issues, or loss of a child. Previously, I have worked with a variety of clients, but decided to focus solely on women's health after experiencing my own miscarriage and subsequent infertility issues. My treatment approach is holistic and eclectic. I believe that therapy should never be a "one-size fit all" approach. Everyone heals differently and my goal is to personalize my approach to optimize your growth and overall well-being.

Do you ever feel like your anxiety is getting in the way of things you want to accomplish in life? 1 out of every 3 adults will experience anxiety, so you are not alone. Amid anxiety, it may feel like the walls are caving in and feel helpless, but there are many skills and tools to learn to help cope. During the perinatal stage, you are even more likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. 60% of women do not have the proper diagnosis and 50% of women are not getting treatment at all during this stage of the perinatal period.

As an experienced perinatal, motherhood and trauma therapist, I will help you in bringing ease and confidence to your experience (and fun and laughs too).
Motherhood is harder than you thought it would be. You wanted this, so you should feel joy, right? And you shouldn't feel sad or angry, but you do. That other mom told you they instantly fell in love when they held their baby, but you're worried you didn't feel that. You do self-care when you can and even tried meditation to feel calmer, but it doesn't work. You're overwhelmed. You miss how easy things used to feel. Maybe you feel that being a mom isn't what you thought it was or maybe it isn't for you - yet you're here. It’s confusing. You wonder if it gets easier. You deserve relief. You're not alone. It gets better.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
