I am L. Elizabeth Shelton, GA LPC 008242, and have been fully licensed since 2012, originally in Virginia and since 2015 in Georgia. My theoretical orientation to therapy is CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) as I believe it is critical to understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact and drive most of the problems people struggle to overcome.

Sometimes it feels as if we lost our way; our closest relationships are a constant source of conflict and loneliness, and we struggle to find true connections, clarity, confidence, hope, and peace. It does not need to be that way. You can be seen and loved for who you really are, and you can count on yourself and others through the ups and downs of life. I enjoy guiding people through that journey to become their best selves and to enjoy fulfilling relationships.

A great thing about therapy is having someone who is really on your side as you figure yourself out. It's hard to get started, but it's really worth it when you do. Anxiety and trauma bring so much misery. Believe it or not, our emotions are supposed to help us. When our thoughts and emotions work together, it is awesome. We know who we are. We have a sense of calm and purpose. We feel competent and effective. But emotions work from a different set of rules than thoughts. If we don't understand those rules, our emotions work against us. We feel things we do not want to feel, and we want to feel things that we don't. This can change.

I thoroughly enjoy working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. As a licensed psychologist having worked at different settings and with different age groups, I appreciate the nuance that each person brings to the therapy room. I work collaboratively with clients to figure out the solutions that will best meet each individual’s specific needs. For some, that can mean implementing certain strategies and solutions, while others might require a closer look at one’s identity and close relationships to determine a good path forward. I do my best to ensure that you feel valued, understood, and respected.

It's too much! Being everything to everyone...even when you don't want to... is weighing you down. If you don't do it, it won't get done. Expressing feelings and asking for help is out of the question. You don't want to be a burden, perceived as weak, or judged. The stress and anxiety are becoming too much and now its time to get it out before you implode (because exploding is not an option). The worries & extra expectations need to go. You need some relief. Let's start by giving yourself the compassion you give others. You deserve an outlet.
