I am an adolescent and adult therapist with seven years of experience. I focus on mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, life transitions, and adolescents/teens. I have worked with young adults, women, and men as they face challenges at different places within their life spans. I utilize a mix of Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Psychodynamic, Trauma Focused, Strength-Based, and Solution Focused Brief (SFBT) modalities. To choose to commit to therapy is a decision that takes great strength, courage, and vulnerability, but it is also very rewarding. I feel that it is a privilege to hear someone’s story.

I draw from diverse clinical models including psychodynamic / psychoanalytic work and change-based work like harm reduction.
I've worked with folks on making changes and improving mental health for over 20 years, and I've learned two main things: no one's life is perfect and everyone's got room for growth. So why therapy? There are times when you find yourself in the same frustrating or painful situation, or when you just want to make a change but don't know how - therapy can help. With my training and experience - as a therapist, a crisis hotline supervisor, an HIV test counselor, a substance use counselor, an HIV prevention group leader - I can help you figure out the issues and getting through tough times.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, my primarily approach is a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focus therapy, and narrative psychotherapy.
For my ideal patient, issues pertaining to depression, anxiety, hopelessness, low self esteem, negative/low mindset, lack of self confidence as well as unwillingness to learn/be teachable are some factors that militates against an individual's progress. These identified issues often result to certain needs such as undesired behavior, self pity expectation, avoidance, searching to fill an empty void within, need of wanting to belong and be accepted etc. Based on these presenting problems, I hope to see my clients begin to believe in "A reset in life "

Using CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) and Psychodynamic Therapy, we work together to create awareness and understanding of the patterns and cycles that are no longer working for us.
Change only occurs in chaos or crisis. If everything is ok, why change? If you are uncomfortable in your life because of your job, your relationships, or even yourself, I challenge you to lean into the discomfort. Can you imagine walking into a room and feeling completely at peace and authentically you? If you can’t imagine this life, you are missing out on the authenticity of it all!

We'll utilize attachment strategies, the wisdom of lived experience, a process of mutuality as well as methods based in cognitive behavioral theory and psychodynamic counseling to heal from unmet needs.
As someone in recovery from mental health challenges I've experienced it all. In being lost and finding my way back I've come to know the terrain you're navigating. In my years of counseling this has allowed for deeper connections and radical transformations. My professional experience has led to teaching other mental health professionals and guiding the transformation of a large hospital system. Whatever it is that you're facing, through my personal experience I might understand what you are going through and be in a unique position to provide what you need.

Dear Potential Client: You deserve a sense of well-being and meaning in your life. Maybe you have spent too long in an endless cycle of feeling unworthy and labeled. Maybe everyday tasks have become overwhelming, and you feel even more isolated because it seems no one understands. You may feel shameful, stuck and hopeless. You don’t have to continue to experience the emotional and physical pain that comes with trauma, grief, anxiety and depression. You don’t have to keep re-living past experiences.

Life' s experiences can be both unexpectedly extraordinary or very painful, whether they are or not a result of our choices, both experiences can teach us lessons. The way we perceive these experiences can determine future outcomes. This is why is so important to identify the silver lining of each event, even if you don't see it at this time. Whether you want to process trauma, learning coping skills, or reduce/manage distressful symptoms, reauthoring the narrative we tell ourselves can place you as the commander of your boat in your own life. We only have one life, live it at its full capacity.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
