Life can be challenging as a man, husband, & father. My life experiences, both success & failures, are what I pull from the most to help my clients get where they need to be. I've been counseling in private practice for over 15 years. I've been married for 21 years; my wife and I have 3 children. I primarily work with men who are struggling in the areas of relationships, anger, anxiety, depression, career, and the like. I also love to work with couples who are struggling in the areas of trust, communication, intimacy, unresolved conflict, & unmet needs. As human beings we are wired for connection. Acknowledging past trauma, working through the pain and coming out on the other side are key steps to relational healing with others and ourselves. I am passionate about creating, maintaining and nourishing those relationships, including the relationship with Self. I have been married for 10 years and my husband and I have three children. I understand how chaotic and overwhelming life can be. Clients come to my office to address an array of issues, but, first and foremost, they come to be heard and understood. I specialize in LGBTQ+/transgender issues, as well as schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder. I have been an active advocate and ally in the LGBTQ+ community since 1993, and can assist with coming out (work, school, family/friends), HRT/GAC/GCS referrals, finding resources, gaining confidence, building your support system, and any/all aspects of transition. Clients with schizophrenia and DID will find my treatment methods non-conventional, direct but gentle, and respectful. Parents/caregivers are welcome and encouraged also.

Dr. Donovan earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology and Human Systems from the Florida State University in 2001. Her specialty was in neuropsychology, with a research emphasis in neuropsychological assessment of patients with traumatic brain injuries. She completed her residency at the VA Medical Center, Washington D.C. and post-doc in Clinical Psychology at Carolina Psychological Health Services. Dr. Donovan worked in private practice for several years before accepting a position as Senior Psychologist for the Florida Department of Corrections in 2004, where she was responsible for the provision of mental health services to over 1,200 inmates in a close-management correctional institution.
