Perhaps you're feeling burdened by life's stressors and are feeling stuck and out of sorts. Maybe you're finding yourself anxious daily and is in need of some relief. Maybe you're feeling down, sad, alone, confused, or even irritable. Maybe you're not getting as much joy from spending time with your loved ones. Maybe you've endured a hardship, break up, or suffered a loss, and you feel yourself breaking piece by piece. Maybe it is time to do something about it. Maybe it is time to begin healing.

I work with a lot of men who are balancing work and relationships. I see clients who are overwhelmed in their jobs, frustrated with demands coming from so many people and places. Sometimes a partner insists on the need for counseling! Kids, teens, or even adult children can be a source of stress. And then there are the teens I see whose home-life, school, or relationship pressures stress them out. Others are in the second half of life, or may be feeling the pain of divorce or loss. There is definitely hope! I’ll work with you as you need it, giving you a space to talk about things you’re facing in your life, and offering coaching.

In working with clients, existential therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and reality therapy are my main models of choice.
My goal is to provide a safe space to openly explore barriers that can prevent my clients from maintaining lasting joy in their lives. Inner beliefs, past experiences, and unhealthy relationships are often a central issue we face in learning to live as our whole selves, fully accepted and fully loved. My mission is to help my clients find wholeness and know their inherent worth. I have worked with children, families, gerontology, hospital social work, substance abuse recovery, and hospice. As well as teenage girls, as they navigate healing concerns such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-harm, learning disabilities, and self-esteem.

I specialize in Reality therapy, a type of counseling that steers away from diagnosing while empowering individuals to make better daily choices.
Are you struggling with connecting to the important people in your life? Are you feeling lost or wondering what is next? Are you asking yourself what is it going to take to get out of this rut? Are you finding yourself in a constant cycle of negative self-talk? Well if so, then I am here to assist. The truth is that mental health bleeds in to all facets of life. I believe having strong mental health directly correlates with our ability to perform as our best selves. It is especially difficult to be the best spouse, sibling, child, employee, etc if our mental health is in decline.

Hi there, Congrats on making it to this step! Looking into therapy can be overwhelming, whether it is your first time or your familiar with it. You may think, is this really for me? I am here to tell you that you are not alone in this journey. I believe therapy is for anyone and everyone. Whether you are going through a crisis or not, having someone unbiased to talk to can help. You have to find the right fit and I hope I can be that, but if not I would love to provide you with other resources. I believe in making therapy an accepting and safe place that provides compassion, honesty, and focusing on Progress rather than Perfection.

Practice FULL, NOT accepting new clients at this time. After 30+ years of experience, I have found that even during intense stress, struggles, pains, hurts, and failures, people are amazingly resilient. As a licensed psychotherapist, I consider all aspects of a person: mental, emotional, and physical health; faith and spiritual considerations; culture, and lifestyle. Working together, a focus emerges and the process begins that assists in gaining a clearer and deeper understanding of themselves and others, while experiencing a renewed purpose, meaning, and identity through their beliefs, values, and faith...a life worth living.

As one ages, one experiences the "Winds of Change". Some of us experience these changes in our lives one at a time, and others experience a world wind that may take our breath away. As a therapist that concentrates on Holistic remedies, I find that many of us are not able to handle all of the changes that may occur at one time, which may leave us feeling depressed and/or anxious. However, during this state of "change" is it actually depression and/or anxiety... or is it a result of what has or is occurring in our lives?

Reality Therapy

Is reality therapy evidence-based?

Reality therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapies. However, some research does indicate that reality therapy might be helpful for people with addiction, and may be effective in treating social anxiety in young people.

How long does reality therapy last?

Reality therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Reality therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of reality therapy long after treatment has ended.

Does reality therapy work?

Reality therapy can help a person manage concerns such as eating disorders, addiction, substance use, anxiety, phobias, and relationship difficulties. This type of therapy encourages a person to be accountable for their behaviors. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure. Reality therapy can be useful in one-on-one therapy or in group sessions. This method may be used with children, families, and adults.

What are the limitations of reality therapy?

This therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the therapist focuses on choices made by the individual in the present day. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over others. This format may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every client.
