My areas of specialty are couples, anxiety, depression, substance use, addiction, self-esteem, old beliefs, boundaries, communication, LGBTQ+ and individuals on the Autism spectrum.
I work with adolescents (18+), adults, LGBTQ+, families, and couples. I also work with overcoming difficult family and/or personal relationships. My ideal client is someone who is willing to push themselves to be the best they can be by facing the hard issues. Their goals are to "live out loud" as I like to say and be their most authentic selves. The healing journey is not an easy one, but a rewarding one and I promise it will be worth it. I am located in Winter Park just off I-4 so I take clients from Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Maitland, Sanford and Lake Mary. I can see anyone in Florida virtually as well.

It takes a lot to get to a place where you have decided to get help. It's not always easy to confront difficult feelings and experiences and that's normal. I have a passion for helping people that want to learn how to better navigate their emotions in a healthier way, gain a deeper understanding of themselves and improve their relationships and quality of life. I specialize in working with people who struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, substance use and that have experienced traumatic events. I also help people who are struggling with cultural issues and intergenerational trauma.

We all seek balance and wellness in our lives, and whether we are challenged with difficult times or want to enhance our strengths and resilience, the support and guidance of a therapist can be empowering. With a collaborative approach in over 30 years of practice, I have met with clients of all ages in my office, traveled the Appalachian Trail and the Suwannee River with teenagers, worked in drug court and residential programs and facilitated groups with families, children and adults. Currently I am offering counseling for adults, adolescents, couples and families in a private office setting or via telehealth.

The courage it takes to reach out for counseling is commended. I offer support, guidance, and direction when needed about the challenges you are going through. Most meetings include a time for you to process what is going on in your world along with skill building. I have worksheets, articles, and curiosity to guide you into perspective change. I love the change process that folks go through and cheer this on with a positive perspective and encouraging words along the way. I am intentional about pointing out the growth and positive at the end of each meeting.

One of my main goals as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Life Coach (CC) is to provide my clients with a safe, conducive atmosphere to allow their genuine self to have a voice. The counseling relationship can provide a unique space of non judgment and confidentiality. Many of us wear many masks. Masks tend to be uncomfortable and suffocating if worn too long. I strive to offer clients a place where masks can be safely removed and genuine thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs can be safely explored and addressed. My counseling philosophy is based on listening closely and helping you work through some of the issues that may be holding you back. I always respect my clients' background and history that may be hard for anyone else to fully understand. Generally the answers to set you free are found within yourself. One of the great benefits of counseling is that, often times, my clients find tremendous freedom just by making insightful realizations with the help of someone with clinical knowledge. The most fulfilling days are those in which my clients report relief from distraction and newfound happiness.

Many have lost awareness of their own strengths and abilities. Today's world can create a negative environment that leads one to focus on the negative. Ultimately, we benefit from learning to acknowledge and build on our past and existing strengths in order to move forward. Integrating personal philosophies or spiritual beliefs is an effective means to build greater confidence and new skills. You have everything you need to reach your goals, you just may need help in realizing and focusing your strengths and abilities.

Are you exhausted from living with substance misuse, sexual compulsivity, or the pain of trauma? Does it feel like no matter how hard you try, nothing seems to help? Having an experienced guide to help navigate the challenges in your healing journey can make all the difference. No matter the trauma or the shape addiction takes (drugs, alcohol, sex, porn, etc.), healing depends on addressing the underlying issues and restoring connection to our bodies, ourselves, others, and the world. As you begin to heal, the need to engage in addictive behavior lessens, ultimately resulting in natural, lifelong recovery.

It can be challenging to want to make a change, invest in yourself, try to view your life without judgment, and having no idea where to start. Truth be told, you don't need to know where to start, just that you want something to be different. Your willingness to examine yourself is what you bring to sessions and my experience and skill is where I meet you in those sessions. My role is to challenge you when you’re stuck and keep you accountable, providing education and practical skills to use in daily life, and support you through the discomfort of change and vulnerability - and to celebrate the successes that follow.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
