I have gained my experience by working in private practice and not-for-profit centers as well as in business management. I enjoy working with Clients of all ages and a variety of struggles. I place a strong emphasis on the therapist-Client relationship because I believes it is the key to creating long-lasting change. I work from a person-centered approach that allows the ability to support Clients while they create their own change at their own pace. I go past the symptoms and instead help Clients discover and work through the cause(s) of those symptoms to affect true, positive, and lasting change. I have experience working with a broad range of Clients, including adolescents, adults and older adults.

By 9PM you’re anticipating the battle you fight every night, and you’re just too tired this time. Everything you’ve tried has been useless and you’re ready for a tranquilizer. Maybe you’ve already tried a tranquilizer and you hate feeling dependent on something for such a basic human need like sleep. You’re in a fight against your body, and you’re losing.

My theoretical approach to counseling involves working collaboratively with my clients to realize undiscovered and undeveloped resources within. Through a systemic counseling perspective, I focus on goals of fortifying resilience, illuminating strengths, and facilitating growth and development. I believe that every individual possesses significant and unique value and potential. As a trained EMDR practitioner, I have a special interest in working with clients to integrate past experiences with their current level of self-knowledge. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a method of assimilating past traumatic experiences into a coherent narrative of strength and resilience.

There is no guidebook to living a perfect life, being a perfect person, or being happy at all times. To be human is to be imperfect & flawed. It can be so overwhelming to be human. Trying to manage school, work, family, physical/mental health, & a social life while tending to other commitments all at once can feel downright impossible. Dorcar Cruz, RMHCI Dorcar Cruz is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in Florida who has been practicing since 2020. She has an M. Ed. Dorcar believes in a treatment philosophy that is both collaborative and holistic. She feels it is necessary for the person to participate in an open dialogue with the therapist regarding their doubts, strategies, their treatment, and progress. And then treating the whole person and not just their symptoms or diagnosis is key to providing comprehensive and effective care. In her spare time, Dorcar enjoys reading, walking, music, and traveling/road trips.
