As a person in recovery myself, I have both personal and professional experience to help those desiring help with untreated addiction and/or unresolved trauma. In order to recover, you need to know what you are recovering from. My work with co-occurring disorders including mental health, substance abuse and trauma started in a hospital on the Dual Diagnosis unit then grew into working as a trauma therapist and from there, working as both a residential and IOP therapist at a treatment center for chemical dependency and eating disorders. Being in recovery gives me the insight and perspective in which to help you with your journey.

Whether you’re a stay-at-home-Mom needing help with parenting skills or an abuse survivor hoping to gain understanding about traumatic stress, therapy is for you.
Life's disappointments can leave us feeling shaken, shattered, or even destroyed, causing us to question our purpose or if we will ever feel whole again. If you have found yourself in this place, rest assured you are not alone. However, the pain that has defined your life for a season does not have to define your future. If you are ready to process the painful events of the past, address challenging events in the present, and step into a brighter future you are in the right place.

I am passionate about working with teens, young adults, college students, LGBTQ+ folks, and survivors of intimate partner violence and childhood abuse.
Life can get extremely difficult, leaving you feeling depressed, anxious, and alone. Asking for help doesn't mean you failed or that you are weak, it's quite the opposite. Our strength lies in our ability to be vulnerable and take steps towards change. As your therapist, my first priority is making you feel comfortable and supported sharing your life with me. My therapy room is an open space for you to open up without feeling judged or criticized. With every client I see, I aim to instill hope, trust, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.

Would you like someone to talk to - completely without judgement or bias? To have a safe space for guidance? To gain a different perspective? Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is ideal for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be noted. Here, you are taking responsibility by accepting what you are experiencing and making a commitment to change something about it.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
