I remember the first time I decided to seek therapy. I remember the mixed emotions of anxiety, fear, being overwhelmed, not knowing what to look for, or where to go. It can be especially hard if you identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. You can rest assured that all of those feelings are valid and normal. Don't let fear prevent you from reaching out for help with the issues you are going through. I am here to hold space for you and offer a supportive, unbiased, non-judgmental environment. I will stand by you on your healing journey as your guide. You don’t have to go through this alone.

Life can sometimes knock us off our path, leaving us feeling lost, overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck. These experiences shape who we become, but it's up to each of us to decide how they will impact us. When we understand that what happened to us wasn't our fault and that our healing is our responsibility, we can choose to take control of our life's story. It can be incredibly challenging and even feel debilitating at times, but seeking support is a crucial step towards not just surviving but truly thriving in life.

After reverting to Islam in 2001 and graduating with a degree in Psychology, I saw the gap in mental health care available to Muslim women.
Licensed in Florida, Texas, and Vermont. Please visit my website for a FREE consultation. As a female Muslim therapist, Muslim women usually contact me for difficult events, trauma, OCD, and other situations that impact self-esteem, and cause depression, anxiety, overwhelm, and anger issues. Some describe their experience as an emotional tug-of-war. Whatever your struggle is, I will provide a safe space free of judgment. As an Aalimah I can provide you with spiritual care should that be important to you. All you need to bring with you is courage, consistency, and persistence.

"I just really want someone to be a listening ear, someone impartial, non-judgements and will help me go in the right direction. I have trouble with boundaries, I am having issues with being assertive and speaking up for myself and some of my family members I can't even deal with them, I mean it that healthy? Leaving the toxic and abusive relationship was tough enough but no everyone understands what its like to be in that situation and unable to get out". If these statements have been weighing on your mind lately then allow me to help you navigate through this moment. You are able to heal from your situations.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
