I also provide Christian counseling to help individuals and families meet both their emotional and spiritual needs.
Life can be unpredictable, demanding, full of adjustments and trials. Regardless of the life challenges you may be facing there is always hope. Hope gives us the strength and desire to change, grow, and become whole again once we've faced those difficult challenges. I believe each individual is unique and holds the keys to his/her own healing. Yet, sometimes we may need someone to work beside us to recognize what we already know and to help us to begin the steps necessary to achieve change.

Hi! I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern at the Christian Counseling of South Tampa office. I am specializing in women, ages 12+, and couples counseling, as I have completed Gottman L-1 training and I'm certified in SYMBIS premarital counseling. My primary theoretical approach is the evidenced-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on identifying the negative belief that informs one’s thoughts and behaviors. I also integrates other techniques and theories such as a strengths-based approach.

I bring both professional and lived experience as a stepdad, husband, & therapist to the table, and if faith is an important part of your relationship, I also offer Christian counseling.
Your relationship doesn’t feel the way you wish it did. Yes, you love each other, but it seems like you fight more often than you don’t these days. Neither of you feels like the other is listening, and you then get caught in cycles you can’t seem to break. Maybe it’s big stuff you’re disagreeing about—money, sex, or parenting—or something seemingly trivial that keeps tripping you up. Or perhaps the relationship you’re struggling with isn’t the one with your partner, but a parent or sibling. Whatever it is you’re facing, you both believe reconnection & repair is possible, and you’re ready to get the support you need to do that.

Using Christian-based therapy, you’ll gain the tools to challenge your thinking and develop new coping strategies.
It’s the middle of the night, and you glance at the clock. You have to be up for work in a few hours and haven’t slept a bit. Your thoughts are racing, your heart pounding, the tightness in your chest makes it hard to breathe. You’re caught in an anxiety spiral again and don’t know how to get out. In the past, you’ve always found strength in Jesus. But lately, it’s hard to reach him through this cloud of dread. The shame of being a “bad Christian” only compounds your fear. You want desperately to reach out for help, but you’re terrified no one will understand. Or worse, that they will judge you for it. Something needs to change.

As a Christian Therapist, I believe that people do therapy to find freedom in different areas of their lives. For that reason, I work to not only actively listen to clients' needs but also to empower and support them in processing the various barriers they've experienced to impede living in that place of freedom.

I also received my education from a faith-based program, which equipped me for Christian counseling - another specialty of mine.
Trauma is one of those things that comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be one specific event or occur over a long period of time. The effects of unresolved trauma can wreak havoc on your life if it isn't processed, and you might be noticing that happening now. If you've been having some irritability, anger, unexplained anxiety, or other feelings that don't really fit the situation, it may be time to talk to someone about it. Trauma affects us in different ways, and if we're not careful, we can easily take it out on our loved ones. Working through that trauma in therapy can truly help you heal from those experiences.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
