Through storytelling, play, and art, in a non-judgmental safe space I collaborate with you to shift how you relate to what brings you into therapy.
The change you seek is within your grasp. I would be honored to partner with you to actualize that reality. My name is Andrea Phillips; I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMT2694). I work with individuals, couples, and families to explore what is going on in their life and facilitate a conversation that encourages change. Now change is a funny thing; we want it but at the same time we fight against it. As a therapist, I navigate my clients through this process. So what will be the difference that makes a difference for you? To answer that, I employ directive conversation and engaging activities.

I am a bilingual marriage and family therapist with twenty years experience working with individuals, couples, and families of various age groups and diversities. One of my primary focuses is Relationship counseling which teaches effective communication skills. Relationship counseling offers an excellent approach between parent and child to understand the stages of development and needs of the children. Another method that has been successful in my practice is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. MBSR incorporates techniques such as meditation, gentle yoga and mind-body exercises to help people learn how to cope with stress.

Hey There! I'm Shannon and I am a licensed therapist in Florida and Massachusetts. Woah- right! I spend much of the year split. I am currently accepting NEW clients for Telehealth services. I have over 10 years experience within the field, and my clinical focus has been with children, families and adults. Because of this versatility, I truly love what I do! My outlook on counseling is: you made the first step in reaching out for support, and that is one of the hardest steps! Let's work together to talk through what you are feeling and identify ways to support. Therapy does not always feel easy but you are not alone in the process.

I am passionate about the human mind, emotions, behaviors and appreciate the impact a mental health professional's support can have on someone's life. For over 10 years, I've been working with children, adolescents (including their families), and adults, supporting them during some of their most challenging times, including those facing anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, eating disorders, anger issues and life transitions. My patients are encouraged to identify what matters to them in life, and set meaningful goals and learn coping strategies that help them overcome some obstacles that they might face on their journey.

Feeling like life’s throwing too much at you lately? Anxiety, tough life changes, or just feeling totally out of sync? It’s like your wellness GPS is glitching out, or constantly recalculating. You’re craving that space where you can align mind, body, and soul, but everything feels off-kilter. You need a judgment-free zone where you can untangle your thoughts, breathe, and start feeling like yourself again. A space where your well-being is the main focus, not an afterthought. A holistic – à la WHOLE person – approach to healing and growth.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
