When I ask clients why they’ve come to therapy, many share a simple hope: "I just want to feel better." Often, they’re exhausted from feeling sad, lonely, irritable, or anxious—lying awake at night, wondering how they will get through the next day. They’re drained from giving so much in relationships yet still feeling 'not good enough.' If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. As a licensed clinical psychologist with years of experience, I understand how painful these challenges can be. And I also know that positive change is possible. Through our meaningful work together, you can feel better about yourself and your relationships.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Faith-Based Counselor, and Life Coach specializing in human issues, such as stress, grief, loss, anxiety, depression, women's health, including menopause.
You’ve been feeling out of sorts lately, and something is telling you, “Today is the day to talk with someone.” Feelings of anxiety, wearisomeness, confusion, and not knowing what to do seem to overwhelm you. Waves of worry, unsurety, uncertainty. insecurity, fear, and even discontent have crept in. You are burdened, even despaired. At times you feel hopeless, helpless, powerless, continuously hearing the lie that whispers, “There’s no hope!” If only you could see a glimmer of light in the distance, you could rise above these feelings and challenges with renewed strength, a sense of clarity, balance, and optimism.

Are you looking for exceptional therapy? Are you finding it difficult to call? It is sometimes not easy to take the first step toward beginning therapy. For some it is about having thought they could do it themselves, for others they think it is a sign of weakness, and yet others sometimes worry about using therapy as a crutch. Then there are those who can hardly wait to begin, perhaps begin again, with a new and different therapist, eager to enter the journey of self discovery and self improvement. All this is normal. Either way, you will feel understood and cared for.

Being a new mom is hard. You’re sleep deprived, learning your new little one, and everyone has advice for you. “Sleep when the baby sleeps; you’ll feel better, and happier, when you get a few more hours of sleep; It’s just the baby blues, you’ll be ok in a few weeks; the house work can get done later, make sure the baby is eating enough…” What if you’re still sad after “a few weeks”, you feel scared, anxious, or can't turn your thoughts off? It can start to feel like you are getting through each day in "survival mode". With the help of our knowledgeable counselors, you can stop "surviving" life and start enjoying it.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
