No matter our age, we all have challenges, troubles, or a past that needs some attention. From problems with depression, anxiety, anger, or trauma, to relationship and family problems, deciding on a new direction in life, or rebuilding after a break-up, it's about sorting things out and deciding our way through. For young people struggling to launch into healthy adulthood, I have knack for helping someone get into the driver's seat.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience working with children, families, and couples. As a psychotherapist, I believe in assisting clients to better their relationship with others, to understand and achieve a life that is meaningful and fulfilling. At times we react to life's adversities with fear and anger, burying our joy and hope. Through therapeutic support, I help my clients learn to recognize healthy ways to react to life's trials and take control in order to move forward and seek self-actualization and gratification.

You may be here because you’re feeling down, stuck, or lost. Maybe you're trapped in a web of worry, struggling with irritability or anger, or feeling depressed or numb. Whether you’ve faced a life-changing event or you're struggling with daily stresses that pile up, I want you to know that you’re not alone. You’re in the right place, and therapy can help. I welcome adults, teens, children, and families for therapy in my office in South Miami. For adults, I also offer online therapy (you may have heard the term "teletherapy") using video conference, so if you live elsewhere in Florida or have a busy schedule, help is still in reach.

I work with a wide array of issues including, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress-related problems, grief and loss, cross-cultural issues, substance abuse, anger management, domestic violence, parenting, family and couples’ relationships, and life transitions.
People seek my professional help for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, something in their lives is just not right. They may wish to make specific changes or to understand themselves better. They may struggle with their relationships, have difficulties in their jobs or studies, and/or old traumas continue to negatively affect their present. Also, sometimes they just don’t know what to do with their inner voice that is too critical and sabotages their lives. Therapy or counseling is not always about making big changes or exploring past issues. It can be used to simply have a place to check-in and stay attuned with themselves.

Welcome! It can feel overwhelming searching for providers when you are feeling emotionally unwell. I remember about 8 years ago looking for therapy myself and how many first sessions I set up with different clinicians before I found the right fit. Look forward to discussing your needs and our alignment over a phone consultation!

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
