" I do play and art therapy with younger clients.
Reaching out for help takes great strength. You have already taken the first step in healing and improving your life. It is difficult to see the positives and the hope when you are discouraged or overwhelmed. I work with my clients to help them overcome the barriers that prevent them from leading a fulfilling life. I specialize in eating disorders, depression, self-harming behaviors, couple and adolescent counseling. I encourage you to take the next step in working on those concerns and problems that prevent you from being happy and content. I would welcome the opportunity to help you start believing that change is possible.

As a clinician I believe one can decide if an issue requires immediate action and change or if it can-or must-be accepted for what it is while they learn to make behavioral changes that can positively affect their situation. I work with my clients to start the healing process through their own self-talk, or the way they talk about traumatic events, problematic relationships, toxic behaviors, physical limitations or other issues. I work with my clients, as a team, to stop repeating thought patterns and behaviors that are contributing to negative, hurtful, and self-defeating issues.

Taking this initial step to find a therapist that you feel will be a good match for you can sometimes feel a bit scary and overwhelming. I remember how "outside of my comfort zone" I felt when I first started this healing journey myself. I would love to help you feel less overwhelmed and like you are giving stress, anxiety, and emotional pain less of your energy. My passion is to help you learn how to feel confident in your own skin, and create a meaningful life that makes you excited to wake up in the morning. It is not as out of reach as you may feel it is right now. Baby steps in the right direction is still progress!

Hi and welcome, let me share a bit of my philosophy with you… After several different career choices, true to the vocational model, at thirty-something I discovered the field of psychotherapy. I began my career in accounting, moving into the medical field, then the business world and found my true passion in the study of human behavior. I may be one of a few therapists with physics and organic chemistry as electives! I have three grown children and am Gaga to eight grandchildren and 0ne great grandchild (I have finally lived long enough to be great at something!).

Being a teen or young adult right now is very different then being one even just a few years ago. My passion is working with young people to build skills whether social or academic that help bring calm, confidence, and peace into their lives. My goal is to empower young people to self-advocate and use their personal strengths to create a life that is full of joy and self-acceptance. My clients are unique in regard to their interests, abilities, personalities, and skill set. Life is not about competition or comparison (no matter what anyone says). We all make mistakes, let's learn from them together!

I utilize art, and mindfulness, and make an attempt to emphasize the client’s strengths in order to bring healing.
Are you going through important life changes? Do you feel a loss of connection with yourself, your family, with others, or with God? Challenges are often disguised opportunities to learn new skills. I help individuals, couples, and families address relationship crises such as escalating couple conflict; family breakdown in communication; pre and post-divorce issues; unique family dynamics when the couple have children from prior relationships; and the role that trauma often plays in getting stuck and staying stuck in addictive behaviors. Im LMHC (Counselor) - hablo Español. Qualified Supervisor MHC/ Virtual Thought Fl.

In my free time, I enjoy art, creative messes, time with my dog, and spiritual exploration.
The world is rapidly changing, as are we. If you're feeling out of place you might find a safe, explorative, and comforting one in therapeutic work with me. For 40 years I have been doing the work of psychotherapy or rather, "care of the soul." Healing is an immensely intimate, individual, and spiritual experience and a road best traveled with a companion. This journey requires curiosity, creativity, and often humor as we find the answers already within us.

I believe counseling is an art and a science.
Clients come to my office to address an array of issues, but, first and foremost, they come to be heard and understood. In a world that seems to move increasingly faster with less genuine connection to others, LWS Wellness is dedicated to providing a safe, caring space where clients can take a breath, gather their thoughts, and explore their concerns. Clients are encouraged to further develop resiliency, apply coping skills and self-compassion, and examine the impact of past experiences and family dynamics. Who we are is often an intersection with what we've experienced. My clients' experiences are always respected.

I use expressive therapies including play, sandtray and art to develop positive communications and give families the tools to deal with challenges, foster healthy attachment and understanding.
Are you or your child experiencing problems and struggling to cope? Therapy can help with family relationships, school problems and behavioral issues. I provide a safe and secure environment to empower you and your family. Therapy for both kids and grown-ups alike can be scary, however it can also be the journey that you are waiting to take.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
