I take a culturally sensitive approach in using cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, and other evidenced based therapies.
Do you feel trapped in negative thoughts and feelings, and find it difficult to fall asleep because your brain just won’t get quiet? Do you wake up and still the disquiet follows you around, causing you to lose your sense of peace? Your therapy experience will help to remove the clouds of unhappiness, improve your relationships, enable you to see hope for better days, and leave you feeling relieved, confident, and refreshed. I will help you identify and use your own abilities and strengths, and teach you new skills to break the negative cycle that keeps you discouraged and unhappy.

I know trauma-focused techniques such as eye movement desensitization & reprocessing, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, & polyvagal theory trauma.
One of my heartfelt specialties is ADHD, which is increasingly prevalent among individuals aged 5 to 18 years old. Based on evidence-based practices & my own up-growing experience with clients, I firmly believe that factors such as nutrition, environment, societal influences, & social media play significant roles in shaping individuals with ADHD symptoms, whether they have been formally diagnosed or not. Understanding how these factors impact clients' functionality and well-being, I strive to provide a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental, and compassionate space. I offer treatments tailored to my clients' needs, desires, and goals.

Most frequently I use cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, solution-focused, relaxation training and mindfulness techniques.
Sometimes life has a way of presenting you with unwanted challenges, while you’re busy making other plans. You may realize that you can use some additional support when these challenges are causing you anxiety, stress, exhaustion, depression or other difficulties. You don’t have to face these challenges alone. My goal as a therapist is to help clients explore the issues and challenges they face by listening, supporting and accepting without judgment. I view therapy as a collaborative, sharing experience and seek to help my clients feel comfortable, hopeful, and truly understood.

I offer a strength based, person centered approach, rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, or Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
My clients are motivated towards long term change. Many are seeking relief from painful experiences. Most recognize a need to regain control. And, almost all do not know how to achieve on their own what they are acknowledging they need. They are tired of going through the motions of life and wish to experience it fully, again. Some come with deep hurt from various relationships that they need support in resolving. And all simply want to live authentically.

I use an eclectic approach, utilizing techniques from CBT, Mindfulness, Neuroplasticity, and ACT to treat depression, anxiety, stress, and many others.
Perhaps you're scared or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future, or just don't feel okay. These feelings can lead to random, persistent, and even scary thoughts that can last for an hour or days. Using a CBT approach, I work collaboratively with my clients to help them grow and develop skills that can help them take control of their mental health.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
