Do the memories of the past continue to haunt you in your present life? Is your mind and body in a constant state of fight-or-flight, leaving you feeling exhausted or empty? Are you looking to heal on a deeper, cellular level instead of just putting bandaid over symptoms? If so, you have come to a safe space! Having worked at various mental health and addiction centers, I witnessed firsthand just how frustrated and unsatisfied people were with traditional approaches to mental health. This lead me to build my own private practice that weaves holistic and evidence-based approaches to help you heal the root-cause of symptoms.

Life is made of moments, moments become memories, and we assign meaning to these memories… The mind is a powerful thing! But what if some of these moments were bad? What if our memories leave us feeling broken, detached, anxious, depressed, or worthless? What if we take negative messages from these memories, making it hard to even function? If you’ve experienced childhood trauma, suffered from abuse, or been exposed to violence, chances are you have some of these memories. Even break-ups, work stress, or school- related struggles can make quite an impact on us, too. My primary goal is to provide a safe place for you to heal.

OPENINGS NOW IN OFFICE and Remotely. Overwhelmed? Anxious? Panic? Sad? Stressed? Worried? Painful Marriage? Chronic Illness or Pain? I use a comprehensive approach to balance mind and body, encompassing holistic & traditional therapies. I have 30 years of experience. In 1993 I began studying the mind-body connection while working with cancer patients. My work in this area took on greater importance after I suddenly became ill & went into cardiac arrest. Doctors at a prestigious university hospital were baffled. Married with two children, working & having just finished graduate school, unaware how stressed I was, my body showed me.

Virtual art therapy and counseling for North Carolina and Florida residents! For most of your life, you have felt different and misunderstood from those around you. Maybe your skin color, culture, hobbies, faith, etc. put you on the sidelines. You've taken on the "anxious, slow, or hyper" personality type because others described you this way. You have not felt “good enough” in all spaces and have difficulty feeling worthy. So, over time, you have learned to assimilate, blend in; but that has meant becoming someone that isn't you. It's as if you're playing a part in a play but were never given the script.

I have worked professionally in the counseling field for over 15 years and have worked in both clinical and educational settings in New York and Florida. I am trained in understanding the complexities of maternal mental health, family systems, and licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders. My approach is collaborative and meet each client where they are. I am also a mom and I'm aware of some of the most exciting moments motherhood brings as well as the challenges parents face daily: including perinatal mood disorders, parenting challenges, parenting a special needs child, and change of life issues.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
