Sometimes it just takes one conversation to start recognizing unhealthy patterns that are holding us back from achieving our goals. Once we get to the root causes of our discontent, we can begin the real work to create positive change. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma, dysfunctional family patterns, marital stressors, or welcoming a new child- you are resilient and capable of creating the life you want. Contentment is possible if we are open to doing the work. Unfortunately, many of us lack the necessary support we need to be successful in this process.

Right now you’re struggling to find purpose in your daily life — feeling overwhelmed by grief or other role demands. You need a warm, safe environment to explore patterns that are holding you back and find ways of moving forward. While it’s easier to hide from what is causing you pain, by taking action now you will begin to understand who you are and what you want out of life. Regardless if you are a student, a stay-at-home mom, professional, or retired— you will learn new ways to cope with life — but most importantly learn to make positive changes toward greater life balance and acceptance, while creating meaning.

Connection is hard. It requires a level of vulnerability that opens us up to the very pain we’ve been trying to avoid. Connection however, is vital to every person’s emotional, sexual, and mental well-being. We can’t understand ourselves or feel close to others without it. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Sex Therapist, I offer a safe, honest, and affirming environment where you can feel comfortable exploring whatever holds you back from connecting with yourself and others.

Ready to make a change but not sure how to get started? Many of us are struggling with anxiety, sleep issues, feeling unmotivated and stuck. I will act as your guide in self discovery and encourage you to identify patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are holding you back. We will draw on your strengths and choose the direction you want to take in resolving personal, career and relationship challenges. We all want to be loved and valued in our relationships, but struggle at times with communication, intimacy, self esteem, or conflict. Disappointment and resentment build and our feelings about our partner change.

Taking this initial step to find a therapist that you feel will be a good match for you can sometimes feel a bit scary and overwhelming. I remember how "outside of my comfort zone" I felt when I first started this healing journey myself. I would love to help you feel less overwhelmed and like you are giving stress, anxiety, and emotional pain less of your energy. My passion is to help you learn how to feel confident in your own skin, and create a meaningful life that makes you excited to wake up in the morning. It is not as out of reach as you may feel it is right now. Baby steps in the right direction is still progress!

Admitting that things are overwhelming and we need some help is a hard thing to do. There is no shame in admitting that we can all benefit from a little extra help at some time or another in our life. I believe that at the heart of most of our struggles lies our disconnection from our true, authentic selves. I believe my greatest strength lies in my ability to see beneath your accumulation of traumatic experiences, adopted belief systems, and pain to your true essence in order to assist you on the journey of becoming reacquainted with your magic.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
