After staying home with my children and helping my husband start an IT training business, I decided to pursue my passion for helping people by becoming a counselor. I completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, both from Colorado Christian University. If you’re struggling in life or your relationships, I would love to walk alongside you in your journey. I welcome you to come as you are and I will offer empathy and compassion. I look forward to working with you.

I want what is best for you! At painful times in my life I have sought individual, couple and family counseling and have benefited immensely.
Pain, anxiety, depression, a loss of hope, a diminished sense of purpose, teen and parenting challenges are all difficult to manage on our own. Everyone of us needs help along the way. Therapy can help you; understand and manage your emotions, build and maintain healthy boundaries and relationships, heal from past hurts or traumas, deal with feelings of inadequacy, shame or rejection, forgive yourself and others. Therapy can help If you are a teen who feels like you have to struggle on your own or a teen parent who does not understand what is going on with your teen and how to communicate with them.

Hi there, I'm Hayne. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing both in-person and Telehealth sessions. For 20 years, I've loved working with every angle of the family. If you looked at my schedule on any given day, you'd probably see a few married couples, some exhausted and burnt-out parents, a college student, a 4th-12th grader, someone having an affair, someone who has been crushed by a loss or a person who is wrestling through their attraction to the same gender. I often find that a person's willingness to come in and simply talk about things creates at least 50% of the change they are looking for.

With more than 10 years of experience, I have learned severe emotional trauma occurs if trauma is long-standing, repeated, or targets an individual’s self-worth. Self-compassion is the ability to forgo self-blame in order to forgive oneself for imperfections, as well as natural and honest reactions to traumatic events. Self-compassion has been shown to decrease mental health symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression, shame) related to trauma, and increase positive psychological traits (happiness, joy). I utilize this approach alongside existential questions related to substance use, career choice, family issues, self-worth, and trauma.

Life can have twists and bumps along the way. As a caring professional working in the behavioral health field for over 15 years I can assist you in the development or refining coping skills so you can continue with quality in activities of daily living. Hello and welcome. I help clients heal from trauma, adverse childhood experiences and pregnancy/postpartum stress. Trauma can look like unresolved event-based trauma (shock trauma) as well as attachment and relational wounding (developmental trauma) that manifest in various forms of emotional distress. The resolution of unresolved wounding is important in the healing process because such wounds keep us disconnected from ourselves and repeating the same unhealthy patterns in relationships, family systems and professional roles. I am also a Qualified Supervisor for MHC Registered Interns.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
