Have you suffered from a Narcissistic abusive relationship? Do you tend to be a caregiver at the expense of your own needs? Have you suffered religious abuse or cult membership? Toxic relationships are not limited to romantic partners, they can be with our parents, siblings, friends, and even work relations. These kinds of experiences leave a lasting, negative impact on one’s mental and emotional well-being resulting in a life-long trauma wound. This can leave us in a state of perpetual anxiety, depression, isolation, confusion and codependency, and possible addiction.

I'm Amanda, and I help deep feeling, introspective, and motivated adults and teens become aware of the root causes of their patterns of behavior. You’re frustrated by doing everything you "should" be doing and realizing that fulfillment you were promised is nowhere to be found. You’ve taken the “right” steps in life, but you're depleted, and wondering how you can feel so bad when you've done it all right. You may see yourself as obsessive, self-critical, and deeply flawed despite your achievements and successes. You want to feel relief, and to be able to appreciate the life you’ve built for yourself.

It is a safe, evidence-based practice that utilizes natural states of mind to powerfully address issues. Hypnosis is not a cure for mental health or medical conditions. The healing process can seem like a long and painful journey. Having an experienced professional can make all the difference. I'm a trauma trained, licensed therapist who takes a non-judgmental and empathetic approach to the therapeutic process. I use tools such as EMDR, meditation, and somatic processing to help clients release the past and relieve the mind and body from emotional suffering. I believe that addressing the root causes of problems can help alleviate many mental health symptoms and lead to a more connected and fulfilling life.

I feel it is a privilege to be invited into someone's life journey and I always intend to treat people with respect and compassion. I feel I am gifted with an ability to understand people, due to experience and being fully present and focused. Our sessions move quickly and dynamically, with an emphasis on insight and then transformational goals. To reach wholeness and happiness, we need to consider the mind, body and spirit. Health and wellness, as well as a client's belief system are especially intriguing to me: " If you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them"

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
